I had three deer try to commit suicide in front of me last night coming home from the cruise in. Does that count?

(Note to self - the manual brakes on the '40 do not react well to panic stop attempts.)

I started cutting up deer with this knife last year. I love it, cuts through them like butter. Plus no sharpening... you just change the blade.

From the deep woods of East Tx. ...

I got my 1st deer (ever) Sunday morning. 145 lb Button Buck. Today my Dad got a Doe and the other guy here with us got a smaller Button Buck today as well.

Seen a shit ton of Boar on trail cams at night but nothing in daylight hours. We could hunt them at night but we don't want to spook the deer. We may do so tomorrow night since it's my last night here to hunt.

Pics later when I get to civilization again.

Congrats man. My weekend of hunting didn't work out well. Saturday was cut short, Sunday was a bust and Monday was cut short because my babysitter called in sick and the wife had to work.

    It's Hunting season

Last night as we were refilling the corn feeders we found 3 of them disconnected. 2 of the 3 are near the edge of the property and another property. My Dad knows he set all up and running the night we got here. So we pulled the camera chips and had a few pics that were weird or blacked out on the 3 feeders. We both feel the other property ppl came over and disabled the feeders so the deer and hogs go over to their property. So we got a couple of other trail cams and put them up in a different location to watch the ones they know about. I also found trash in 2 of the stands that wasn't from us as well.

Scott, tell me more about this deer you killed. How long after sunrise? What did you shoot it with? How long did it run for or did it drop right away?

    It's Hunting season

Shot was 130 yrds from my stand.
Single shot with my Savage 30-06
Shot it at 0758 am, Sunrise was at 0640 am. It bucked then ran, at that point I thought I missed. It ran and turned 20 ft later and saw it buckle then I knew it was hit. I waited 5 more mins. Didn't want it get up and run again if it laided down. Walked out to the shot site looking for blood train. There was none. Thought well shit, so I went the direction he went. Found him 80 ft from where I hit him. At 1st thought was a Doe but once I got up on him saw his 2 spikes.

TX says under 3" it's an Anterless Dear. They want all Does bagged in 1st 2 weeks or you have to wait till last week of season. Bucks have to have a spread of 13.5" wide and must be outside the ears in the alert position. Kinda hard to check 100+ yards out

Awesome, where did you hit it?

WI says anything under 3 inches is antlerless as well. But we can shoot Doe anytime in the season. In the area I Hunt you can buy extra doe tags until they sell out of the specified number. But I don't shoot doe on my private land until late in the season either.

I have never seen a hog in the wild, day or night. I know they cause problems and WI probably doesn't want them but I really would like to hunt them.

At 130 yards sounds like a good shot.

Which is part of the reason I want to hunt them. Take down multiples and eat delicious pig meat.

Funby how no one ever talks about how easy hunting is when compared to processing the meat. Spent 4 hrs last night and 3 more this morning deboning and getting ready to grind for hamburger and bag steak cuts.

I also have to get another ice chest cause I'm taking half of a 190lb hog my Dad got 2 weeks ago home to.

    It's got some nice hams.

I spend well over 100 hours in the woods a season trying to get big bucks. Hunting takes time too.

Processing meat can be quite a chore though, I agree. Depends on my mood and time of season. Sometimes it's just easier to pay the 100 bucks to have Karls meat market process a deer. If I have time and it's not warm out I prefer to do it myself. Plus my wife usually helps. Shes usually rinsing and wrapping while I'm cutting.

Hit them good with a car and it'll de-bone and tenderize the meat all in one step.

Typed out the whole weeks story and lost it. Not retyping all that. We did well this year. All 3 we're killed in a 26 hour window. Mine is the smaller one on the left....7 point.
