Hi all first post here and looking for a answer to a question
Im in the middle of building a 5.3 turbo 1969 nova and got a deal on a turbo and computer set from a friend
he said the ecu is programmed for a 54 tooth wheel. looking at the computer and harness for install i noticed that the ecu plugs are color coded for a 24 tooth wheel
I currently have a 24 tooth motor in my nova now so I swapped the ecu out and it started and idled
although not happy it hunted for idle speed a little and when i cracked the throttle a little it popped in the intake a bit, im figuring its because of stock injectors and no turbo at the moment

it runs just fine with my ecu in it holds idle no problem and dosent pop at all
im trying to ID if this is for a 24 tooth or a 54 tooth motor

Only way to know for sure is have a tuner look at the software on HPTuners or EFI Live.

What year and model vehicle was the 5.3 sourced from? I am thinking that anything 2004 on up is probably 58x.

True however 04 is the yr of the change over. Safer to say 05 and up are 58x. With 04 you need to verify. IIRC Black crank sensor = 24x, gray = 58x

The aftermarket now sells a 24x to 58x converter box.

The 5.3 came from a 2006 1500 suburban
It turns out it is a 24 tooth wheel on it so I am good with it

Not that I know of
But I will find out next week
