To be honest, I haven't had a really good tasting piece of fruit in many years. Every now and then I'll get one that tastes pretty good, but no where near like I had as a kid or young adult. The days of consistently enjoying fresh cut up fruit bowls while watching TV are a thing of the past. I would love to have just one watermelon that wasn't either tasteless or mush. I've always loved fresh seasonal fruit. I buy it every week and every week I'm disappointed but eat it anyway. And as the seasons roll around, I'll continue to buy my watermelons, cantaloupes, Honeydews, and everything else, etc... hoping that each time will be the time I end up with one that tastes even close to how they did when I was a kid. Crisp, colorful and flavorful. Even buying organic doesn't always make the grade.
Honestly, I used to hear the word GMO and be against them all. I did a bunch of reading on GMOs, and they're not all bad. If a GMO can prevent a certain crop from needing to be sprayed with pesticides (increases the natural resistance to insects), then it isnt necessarily a bad thing, especially when it has no effect on the positive properties of the crop. Anyways, read up on them some. Certainly there are some shit GMOs out there, like the ones that simply increase yield or increase the size of an individual fruit of veggie. And there are GMOs that decrease the natural vitamins and minerals to avoid as well. You can still eat healthy and natural, it's just become a bit more expensive and you have to do your research. Farmers markets are a great place to find locally sourced fruits and veggies that weren't grown with any GMOs, etc.

the main problem I have with GMO's are the companies and how they bully farmers. You have just a few companies that control the vast majority of the seed and they use it to their advantage and strong arm or black ball farmers that want to go their own way. It's become almost impossible for farmers to use their own seed. Monsanto is the devil.

I confess, genetic tinkering makes me nervous. I realize that probably a bunch of what I ingest has been played with... I rarely read labels.
