Hey Scott - the steel one that you have - where did it come from? Any chance you have the weight on it? Does it have the Three Rivers sticker on it like the AL ones?
Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

V6 models had steel driveshafts as did older LT1 models. V6 models were 2 piece. Not sure on the accuracy of this, but mine is definitely AL.
I thought the aluminum driveshafts were common knowledge? When I had my '89 T/A, all the Third Genners would get aluminum driveshafts from the later 4th's , exactly the same length.

The hard-core guys would get the carbon-fiber driveshafts to reduce the weight of the driveshaft even more, the lighter the weight, the less centrifugal force there was to multiply the weight of the driveshaft at higher rotation speeds and tear up the u-joints, and the yokes. I wonder if anyone uses those still?

Also, the 3.8 V6's had a two piece driveshaft with a coupler bearing in between. Never figured if the 3.4's had them, never saw a 3.4 on a lift.

Did they discontinue the coupler kit? One used to just have to replace those, as they were the bigh wear item.

I ended up going to a local drive shaft mfg and having them make me a custom one piece one in the length I needed. The place made shafts for semi trucks if I recall right. It ended up only being around $100. I'm not sure about the kit since I went a different direction.

Did you have alot of vibration/ deflection problems when you went with the one peice? If I remember right, thats why they used the two peices onthe 3.8's.

Everything worked just fine. It was the 2 piece that was causing vibrations for me. The details of it all aren't real great as this was probably 10 years ago. It was a 1996 Camaro V6 3800 I bought in 1999 and it had 22,000 miles on it. I sold it in 2011 with 211,000 miles on it. I can't recall when I replaced the driveshaft, but if I had to guess, it was likely in about 2006 or so. Total guess.
