    67 Camaro Cam Opinions Wanted

Hey all, (posted this over on tech too, but I like you guys better )

Don't know much about cams yet. Well, I keep teaching myself over and over, but I still have yet to do any cam work myself so I have a bit of trouble retaining it....

Anyways, my pops had his 350 rebuilt in his 67 camaro ss 350 and they tossed in this cam.
12-670-4 - NOSTALGIA PLUS Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshafts
Just looking for some feedback on how aggressive this is on a basically stock motor (stock 4 barrel, manifolds, and a pipes x-pipe with magnaflow out back) otherwise. With the rebuild he also switched from a powerglide to a muncie 4-speed and tossing some some 3.73's in the factory 12 bolt.

He and I'd both like a few opinions. To me it sounds Nasty as all get out, at least for my dad, mr. ultra conservative.

    Thanks!

oh and since threads are worthless out pics, here's a couple from when he had it over at my house for a few days...

That camshaft with it's 211/218 at .050 numbers and .420 lift appears to be a middle cam or a mix if you will,,,,of either the factory 327/300hp camshaft and the 327/350hp camshaft.

327/300hp.....112 lsa and intake centerline 112 (no advance)
With .390/.410 lift and duration at .050 of 195/202

327/350hp.....114 las and intake centerline 114 (no advance)
with .447 lift both sides and duration at .050 of 222 both sides

Your camshaft appears to be some newer grind with a mix inbetween
With .426/.420 lift and duration at .050 of 211/218
Ground at a 112 lsa with an intake centerline of 108 so it had 4 degrees of advance ground into the camshaft.

Honestly that's a very tame camshaft that should idle baby butt smooth even with a 112 lsa. The duration numbers are nearly stock (not much more than the old 300hp camshafts used in 327's and 350's of the era). Actually that 300hp camshaft spec I listed would have been the factory camshaft your fathers 350/295hp 67 camaro would have had if it is indeed a real SS350 car. That camshaft you stuck in is basically only slightly bigger and probably wouldn't be all that noticable.
I ran the 350hp camshaft for years in one of my 327's and it had a mild lope. 222 @ .050 duration and the 114 lsa made it a very nice camshaft and a great daily driver for me at the time. Remember that's the little engine that Grumpy reaked havic on in stock eliminator NHRA racing in 1966 beating all the hemis.

In any event, don't know how this camshaft you posted sounds "nasty as all get out" with those specs, it should be rather smooth running. Overall it's a nice camshaft and as I said,,,,is very close to what would have been the factory camshaft in a 67 350/295hp engine at that time.

I agree, that cam shouldn't be "nasty sounding" by any means. I have the 327/350 cam in my 67 and it idles quite calmly. compared to most "cammed" cars. If it's idling rough, I'd have to guess maybe the valve adjustment isn't right, or maybe a vacuum leak. Regardless, it should be more than ok for a car that can be driven everyday without any issues.

Beautiful car by the way. I recently removed the PG transmission out of mine and only wish it could have been replaced b y a stick shift trans...

I better get a job first, LOL....mine is supposed to be a "low budget" car, and that swap takes that car right out of that group, lol. My $150 turbo 350/3000 stall will have to do for now.

thanks. The nastiness was due to a Carb issue causing a rough idle he fixed last night. Now it sounds normal and sounds like exactly what he wanted. Real big thanks!

And btw it is a numbers matching 295 HP car

    Sadly now demodded :(

FBJ is right in that that cam is pretty mild, almost stock AAMOF. I used the 327/350 cam in my last 327 (in yet another 67 I used to have) and it never gave me any problems, pretty peppy even with a TH350 and 3.08 gears
    67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...

2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73).
