What did you do with your Trans Am today?

oh what a F'ing PITA. Got it fixed. Ended up installing a new relay bus and wiring. In the end I couldn't find the ground short so I just replaced it. 20 yr old wiring.

Nice! At least you found out what the root problem was which is what matters. And year 20 year old wiring sucks! About to go through a whole fuel system rewrire!

well spoke too soon. fix one issue and find another. Seems my t stat was the real issue. Got a new 165° and I'm now a steady 185° with ac on and after a 30 min test drive.

I'm sure there's a leak still somewhere but I'll take this hard fought win.

Starting to think something else is up with the T/A. I don't think electric fans kicking on should cause such a power draw to almost kill the car at idle, and the headlights are doing the whole dimming effect far more than usual at idle. I've seen the gauge dip almost into yellow three times now. Wondering if maybe the alternator is beginning its descent into the abyss...

MAF sensor cleaning and o2 replacement seem to have solved the fall-on-face-at-startup issue 99% of the time. There's a chance that the plugs were fouled before I got to the root of the problem, going to pull one and see next weekend.

I've forgotten how 'fun' these F-Bodies can be

Is there any power steering fluid on it? Number one killer of alternators on f bodies. It's why I moved mine to the passenger head. I got tired of replacing them cause of a 60 cent o ring.

Yeah I went through a number of alternators before I relocated my power steering.

It's funny how that happens! Hopefully you're at the end of the rainbow now! I'm waiting on parts right now before I start the dreaded dual pump install. Started removing the boost a pump and existing racetronix wiring since the double pumper comes with a different harness. Yay fun!

Drove to work today and around lunch. It's 95* Satan's ball sack hot right now and still at 180* So yeah I'm feeling better about it finally!

Do a tech thread on the souble pump install. We don't have one yet for that.

I'll try to do it. I have a 98 so the install is specific only to a 98. 99+ needs a different kit. Plus I'm sticking with the returnless setup to see how much power I can push out of it. Other than that it's pretty straight forward on how to do the installation if you already know how to do the racetronix hotwire kit installation. But will be taking photos and a tech write up for the 98

First thing I looked at. I went through 3 alternators on the old SS before I realized and fixed the power steering leak. Those showed different and more sudden signs of decay though. This one could just be getting tired.

Autotrix passenger window fix kit came in today, along with new window motor. Door panels, wiring and window motors are my 3 least favorite things to deal with on an F-Body, so this weekend should be great

Yeah those externals I have been doing as required. Only thing on the front suspension, that is GM is the crossmember, knuckles, a replacement set of springs, and the sway bar.

With the mileage I have on the car, I am thinking of setting up a display, for car shows, to more or less draw attention to the overall condition and appearance of the car, considering the age, mileage, and the fact that it’s never been garage kept.

“Built, not bought”? How about “A survivor, not a garage garage queen”?

LOL. Mines been garage kept looks good but needs lower rocker panels. have duraflex but can't find a shop in this town to install. they need a little work when installed, bondo.etc. too many mechanics but no craftsman! subframe connector, rear suspension will be next on to do list.

This 97 FB going to be some work. I looked it over this morning and the car has been sitting a long while.

    So far -

Carpet and rag top need replaced. Seats need a really good cleaning. Everything inside needs a good wipe down.
Needs a complete coolant flush. Was getting some black foam but it cleared out after a bit, not sure what that's from. Oil is clean and clear. Transmission fluid too. I know the t stat is dead so that's a priority.

AC needs attention too. Don't know what's going one there, will investigate it later.

No knocking, back fire, or smoke form the exhaust. Throttle response is crisp.

And the wife isn't happy I'm rescuing another f body
