So summit got my stainless steel brake lines to me pretty quick...like 1.5 days kind of quick but that massive snow storm in the north east is causing my rotors and pads to sit in a warehouse

So I use our local Firestone shop quite a bit for my truck and my wife's jeep and I have a credit card with them so it makes repairs easy...Out of curiosity I called them while I was at lunch to see how much they would charge to replace the tie rod ends on my Trans Am...I thought he said $283

He actually said $883 I literally laughed.

that's when I say "you could have just told me you didn't want the work"

On my son's Grand Prix, I was quoted from a shop near my house $2800 to get a used transmission from a salvage yard and install it as is, no inspection or work, then $3800 for a rebuilt one. I knew the yard they pull from and was quoted $500 for the same transmission earlier. I took it to my buddy's shop that I ended up towing it to, they did a full rebuild for $1500.

I need to remember that one. I've never replaced inner tie rod ends but I know I can buy them fairly cheap so I might just do this myself...I was thinking this would be a $200-300 job where I could drop it off in the morning and pick it up after work but obviously not at least not at firestone...........

I was going to swap them on my TA. I highly doubt they have ever been replaced and if they were it was WAY before I bought it because I've only had this one for a couple of years.

Sounds to me like they priced out a new rack and pinion unit along with it.

yea, but it doesnt show up as quick...I support the WS6store when I can. I spent $10 more and it got here in less time than it would have through the WS6store. Im not bashing them or anything...just saying what I did.

No worries here. Glad you got what you wanted
I'm only a couple states away from Iowa so I usually get my "trinkets" in about 2-3 days. In fact, I ordered T/A Performance diff cover (for our weak 10 bolt) and a BMR torque arm on Saturday, they shipped them Monday morning, I received them today. I know we all hate to wait for our 'toys' so, I do understand.

did you get the stud upgrade too? I've been looking into getting one of those as well because I'm not going to buy a new rear end anytime soon and I know that is supposed to help tighten everything up.

I've got a new seal and pinion set with new gears sitting in my cart at the WS6store right now actually...

I didn't get the main cap studs, If that's what you are referring to. I know it was only 20.00 more. I'll regret it when I tear into this
Yes, that is my side mirror in the picture. The one my drunk neighbor busted off

That picture makes the cover look really nice compared to the ones I've seen on the internet. I'm gonna have to pull the trigger on this...

I just did my outer tie rods, they were 15 bucks a piece at auto zone and took about 45 minutes to install and ball park the alignment, maybe they thought you needed ball joints replaced lol. That is one thing I will never do in my garage again such a pain.

Ball joints would be a simple swap on our cars as the spring is fully contained.
