Quick Silver- 2002 Z06
Just remove it.
The car will run fine BUT you will throw a code. You will have to get them tuned out in order to keep it from throwing a code.
check out tunedbyfrost.com for a good mail order tune.

Ok the EGR bolts to the front of the passenger head. Remove that and all hoses/wires attched to it. When this is removed you will have a hole in the top of your LS1 intake. You need to get some sort of a plug for that. There are a few options just search for "freeze plug" and you will most likely be able to find the correct size. The AIR has hoses that go from the AIR pump (pump is located under a flap towards the front of the engine bay on the driver side) to the manifolds and also it connects to the back of the intake manifold. You will need block off plates for the headers if you got emmission style headers. Also you will need a cap for the back of the manifold. If you need pics let me know. Its really not to difficult. You will understand once you start tearing things off.

and what are the benefits of this? Better HP and less clutter in the engine bay? and get it tuned so that the SES stays off?

Not really any HP gain. Basically just cleans up the engine bay a bunch and saves a little bit of weight. Send your computer to Frost and have him tune it and this will get rid of the ses light. Also I wouldnt do o2 extensions. I like the bosch 13111 with the long leads. I had problems with my extensions and when I switched to the 13111's all was better.

well... now im debating. i might have Mahalik's cousin help me with it...
ive become very impatcient and everyone here says that i might as well do it myself...
i think i could manage to do it with the help of someone who knows what theyre actually doing
i find myself timid when it come to new things that could possibly end up in an expensive mistakeLast edited by BashamWS6; 11-28-2010 at 03:17 PM.

haha well I dont think you can really cause to much harm by what your doing. I did this by myself and had no mechanical experiance. Just remeber to take your time and reasearch alot before you do it. The only really bad thing that I can think of would be stripping out a bolt in the head. Make sure you have a torque wrench and follow the specs.

imo your better off doing it by yourself, even if you don't have experience. Just follow the directions in the stickies on here and ls1tech and ask questions. With all the money you'll save on install you can get yourself a ls6 intake and/or a lid.
I don't have any experience working on manifolds/headers but I still plan on doing it myself in the middle of winter, I just can't rationalize paying more for install than the actual headers.

$300 for install
$1150 for headers
all this pep talk makes me want to do this now
anyone know where i can find a write up or sticky?
and any tips on convincing my dad that i can do this?

damn i do all my own work to my car. You payed 1150 for headers? Well pretty much should use a lift to do the headers. It turns a nightmare job into a 2 to 3 hour job that it took my to do mine. I remember it took 6 hours to do headers on my Z28 because all I had was a jack and two jack stands...it sucked. It took me 2 hours to do it on my SS cause I used a lift. $300 to install them is actually a good deal. If you feel you can't do it, I'd pay to have it done by someone who has done this before. And I reused my stock Exhaust manifold gaskets because the GM ones are actually a better quality.

I have bought custom made interior myself and did that myself. Took about 4 hours to do that. Had to remove all interior seats and reupholster them with the new leather. It was nice once it was done.
I have yet to put this back into my Camaro SS, I will once the driver seat starts to wear out and tear.
