Yep it will throw a code but I know people running headers and an ls-6 intake for over a year and still fine.

Yep, I removed on my 2000 and it ran the same, no noticeable difference except for the SES light.

The toughest part for me was finding the expandable plug for the intake.

Any local auto part store should have it, ran me about $3 for one.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exhaust_gas_recirculation

"EGR works by recirculating a portion of an engine's exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders. In a gasoline engine, this inert exhaust displaces the amount of combustible matter in the cylinder. This means the heat of combustion is less, and the combustion generates the same pressure against the piston at a lower temperature. In a diesel engine, the exhaust gas replaces some of the excess oxygen in the pre-combustion mixture.

Because NOx formation progresses much faster at high temperatures, EGR reduces the amount of NOx the combustion generates. NOx forms primarily when a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen is subjected to high temperature."

So in all, it just aids in cold start and reducing emissons in the first, um 5 minutes of the car warming up?

So in all, its fairly worthless. Thats probably why GM did away with it after the 2000 models.

Is the intake manifold plug the only plug you need if you have headers that don't use the egr

Once you take it out, you will be surprised how nicer the engine bay looks, and the weight savings can only help, even if only 20 pounds or so.

Check Tune by Frost (Sponsor Member)

Once you put on LT's you will must likely delete your CATS and rear O2's His tune fixes these and also frees up some hidden HP. Very affordable and well worth it.
