I've just realized I should already own one of these, so since there's a thread going already I'll ask you guys. I want one that I don't need a laptop for and is able to read individual sensor data in real time. It doesn't need to be super fancy just as low priced as possible while meeting those parameters. What would you gentleman recommend?

That one says it refreshes every 30 seconds. Did I read it wrong or is it really that slow? I want something I that works in real time.

I would really like a Tech 2, but the price is outrageous on those things. I goofed when I bought my scantool. Should have went up one level to read live sensor data.

I was playing on my iphone today and I found an app called REV made to work with obdII. Apparently you get a wifi obd connector and just connect via your iphone and bam, there you go. The app was only like 40 bucks but all the wifi connectors are like 200-300 so...meh, but just for the cool factor I want it. Anybody ever tried something similar?

Depends how many bucks you have lol...

If you're only going to be doing your F-body, I would think HP Tuners would be the best investment. It does everything you could possibly want on your GM PCM for $500.

Forgive my ignorance, but when you say individual sensor data, your watching a particular sensor,i.e. oil pressure or water temp? I'm looking for something like this that reads codes and also displays info like water temp, oil press.,rpms. Do any of these units do this? Thanks fellas.

Exactly. The higher end scanner also allows you to see the data stream emitted by certain engine sensors. The real high enders can trigger things and turn them off to perform diagnostic work. In contrast, a simple code reader will display the fault code that triggered the SES light, and any pending codes that have not yet set. Some codes have to occur a certain number of times before the light will be set. It will then allow you to clear the codes.

Actron has several models to choose from. They even stock them at our local Autozone. Not sure which model you need though -- I think mine is a 9372 (or something like that). It does not read individual sensor data.

    Wow... let's try a CP9175.

I was browsing ebay and there are a bunch of different makes on there, just don't want to buy complete crap! But I also don't have $300-$500 to spend either,I may be able to swing $150(being unemployed sucks!).

Innova 3140 here, it reads/erases codes and live data depending on what the car you are reading supports. I believe it was in the $150 range on amazon.
