about knock sensor install

obviously removal of the intake is required to install the knock sensors, but would it be a good idea to get new intake gaskets while im there, or can i reuse the ones in there already? thanks guys

As long as the gaskets are still soft and not hard/ brittle you can resuse them

I'll be replacing mine also. Already got the OEM knock sensors, just waiting for the KS harness/pigtails. I was adviced to put beads of silicon around the rubber grommet so water won't get into the sensors when they're installed. GL!

yea ive been searching the forums and found alot of the guys use the silicone...ill be replacing both of mine, and will be siliconing both of them. maybe my car will run hard again, lol having a dead sensor plays hell with the timing

im worried bout going to remove my intake with the a/t dipstick over the intake, anyone have experience with that, or is it just slide the intake forward and out from under the dipstick tube?

Pull the bolts out, you'll only beable to slide it forward alittle bit, then reach behind it and unplug the MAP sensor and 1 large vac line going to your brake booster and small one going to your heater controls

Also you have a hard plastic line going in the drives side right behind the tb that has to be disconected too, I use a pick to release the lock tab

got torn into my maro today. ill sayit was a pain in the ass. but after i was able to squeeze my hand behind the intake manifold to get the heater control line off, then it was cake from there. found out that my front sensor was about to take a crap also (rear sensor was the one that was dead) front sensor had white powder on it, like a old double a battery does when they get too old. and the rear sensor had about 1/4 inch of oil around it and the plug was oil soaked. so i got the connectors cleaned with contact cleaner and got me some knock sensor gaskets coming on that valley there in the middle. i can say i didnt break anything at all, and it was my first time doing this. so im feeling pretty good about it...heres a couple of pics, showing my poor lil girl dismantled

While your there, it wouldn't be a bad idea to pull your valley cover, pull the gasket and smear a thin coat of black rtv on both sides of the gasket then bolt it back in.

Good practice is to replace things in pairs anyway, wether its knock sensors or brake calipers

yea thats what i was going to do, is take the valley cover off and rtv it. itll atleast prolong these knock sensors, and help prevent this from happening again. i cleaned up the heads and valley cover some, but ill get her all buttoned up tomorrow. i had to call it quits tonite cuz i ran out of day light (not lucky enough to have a nice garage with electricity

also, i ripped that piece of weather stripping off the cowl there..those damn pins did a few numbers on both of my hands...looks like edward scissorhands got ahold of me. haha

Lol that's why I love my Edelbrock intake, I can reach right under it and get the knock. Sensors, oil pressure, cam sensor and maybe even the valley pan itself off without touching the intake
