You would happen to know any thing about the cobras from 99-01 would you? Are those a good alternative to an f-body since i see that there numbers are relatively close just curious about those also.

    Help would be appreciated

well all the 99/01 cobra's have independent rear suspension, they are 5spd.. they have the 4v 4.6 and make about 305hp at the flywheel.. honestly man, i thought about getting me a 01 cobra last month, but after stopping and thinking about it.. i figured id try the ls motor camaro's/ta's.. the main reason being, once you put full exhaust, cold air intake, gears and a tune, you really run into going with big $ to go faster.. all those mods you might get 350hp at flywheel on those cars.. good numbers for bolt on's but not enough for me..

so i looked into the ls1 cars because they are easier to work on, a lil cheaper to build and make very good power.. very good street/strip cars... but if you feel you want a mustang GT, get atleast a 01+, because they have a better tranny stock, and better center consol.. any more questions just let me know thanks randy

SN95 designator (Stood for 'Sports Car, North America' originally to debut in 1995)

1994 was the first year of that platform which was previously referred to as the Fox platform, and had been essentially the same design since 1979. SN95 revised a lot of the structure and components to make it both stiffer and lighter. SN95 platform also introduced rear disc brakes.

    GT Class break down:
    1994 5.0 OHV = 215 HP
    1995 5.0 OHV = 215 HP
1997 4.6L SOHC "Modular" motor = 225 HP, but less torque
    1998 essentailly the same
1999 4.6L SOHC with PI "Power Improved" or "Port Improved" heads and revised intake manifold. This is called the "New Edge" mustang and was rated at 260 HP, 300 ft-lbs torque.

    2000 5.4 4V was the Cobra R, N/A rated at 385 HP
2001 4.6 4V was the standard Cobra model, and was rated at 320 HP

2003/2004 Mach 1s were essentailly the same motor as the cobra with the addition of a semi-functional (at best) shaker hood. Automatic trans equiped cars had a cast crank, manual cars had a forged crank.

Aside from blown 1999+ 2Vs, LSXs really don't have to worry about the GTs. A stock 2001 Cobra or Mach 1 would give you a good run, and the 2003/2004 Cobras are in an entirely different league.

    Current prices* for 1999+ GT = 10k
    2001 Cobra = 12-15k
    2003 Cobra = 18-25k

    *obvious generalization

For every 1 f-body, there are about 20 mustangs around here.

And 90% of those Mustangs have a good looking girl in the passenger seat. Kinda sucks, I've only gotten tits in my car once since owning it.

Fuck it though, I smoke them up and down the turnpike all night lol eventually some of those will convert and all in the world will be good

I had a guy in a black 96/7 GT(or maybe Cobra) try to get me to race him on the highway on my way home from work. Would NOT give up. Constantly revved. Pissed me off. I didn't race, but I was able to outmaneuver him until my exit. Some folks just don't get it.

Okay i see but i looked at this old road and track magazine i had from 1999 where they did a comparison of the 99 SS and the 99 cobra and they said:

    SVT Cobra: 0-60= 5.5 Weight=3410lb
    1/4= 14.1@101.5
    Camaro SS: 0-60= 5.5 Weight=3360lb
    1/4=13.9@105.5

Now even with the guys over at road and track that obviously don't know how to launch well because of the slow time's for the SS (6spd btw) those numbers are pretty close...

Now stock for stock with good drivers wouldn't the SS edge it by a bit??

Thanks for the info man wow you know your shit... very helpful thats another thing i love about the GT is the price... i can't really find a LS1 F-body in decent condition for that price which is another turn off for those cars.

Happy to help. I loved my S/C "New Edge" 2000 GT, but like everyone said it costs sooo much to mod them. I was putting down 360 RWHP....with 7k in mods, ugh. (some of that was suspension, etc. though)

If you want cheap speed, find a 94/95 5.0L. You get a better platform/chassis, interior, brakes, and transmission than the earlier Fox Body albeit the same motor. The reason being, parts are dirt cheap for 5.0 302 cu engines since Ford used them for ~15 years in Mustangs. Plus, it's an OHV so similar to working on an LS1.

Also, if you've never seen a picture of a 4.6L block vs a 5.0L block, the 4.6 is significantly wider making the engine bay harder to work in, than its 5.0L brethren.

just curious but what is you price range?? i ask because i was going to give $10500 for the 01 cobra, with gears, lowered, cai, and magnaflow catback, off road x pipe.. the car itself had 82000, on it with 7600miles on the new reman engine.. nice car inside and out.. but i ended up picking up a 01SS with a longtubes, ory, borla catback, lca, sfc, and panhard bar, spec clutch, strut tower bar, and wheels/brakes.. for $10k just 3 weeks ago.. so if you just take the time to look, you will find a car thats worth what your willing to pay.. dont rush into it.. trust me..

Well it'd be nice if i can find something for like 7-10k and i'm doing exactly what your saying... not rushing into it thats why i'm asking around before i make my move.

Yea you seem like you spent a lot of money on that car and could have had an LS1 F-body in the 11's making 450+rwhp with 7k but i bet the gt was badass anyway...

Thanks for the tips on the 94/95 gt's i'll definently look into it and i do like them a bit better than the foxes anyway... i just never thought into em...

Looked like he was bookin it pretty good. I was curious how consistent he was, but all the 1/4 times were edited out except for the last .5 sec in the clip where he ran a 13.41
