    Had to rescue wife

My wife called and said she was on the side of the rode. She drives a 2007 Ford Fusion automatic (I know that’s 90% of the problem). She had been going along with the cruise on and the drivetrain light came on. She said when that happened the car “wouldn’t go”. So she pulled over and killed it. When I got there, I looked over the car and underneath and checked fluid levels. Everything seemed fine. I let her take my truck to work and I took the car for a test spin. I drove for about 20 mins no prob. Thought everything was ok. On the way home I decided to play a little (never got to play much in her car). After finding out the governor was at about 113 a couple of times I thought it was time to head home. On the way home the check engine and drivetrain light come on. I give it gas and it is like the brakes are on. It would hold speed but not pick up at all. So I pull over, kill it, set there for a min, and start it up. Everything is ok now but the check engine light is still on, which I can understand. But does anyone have an idea of what is going on with the drivetrain?

Maybe a vehicle speed sensor fault?

    no codes?
    ever changed the fuel filter?
start with the cheap fixes first
carb cleaner, air filter, fuel filter, oil change
then it's logger time because you know it will never do it while you have it plugged into diagnostics.

Never changed anything but oil and air filter. Changed the oil last weekend and put a K&N air filter in about 6 months ago. It has 46,000 miles on it. I think I'm just gonna let the wife drive my truck to work tonight and let her car sit. Then Monday take it and put the scan tool on it to see what it says. I was hoping to move some stuff this afternoon and it won't fit in the back of the Camaro. I could let her drive the Camaro and I keep the truck. But she knows that isn't happening.

Yeah, that's what I told her. But she bought it before we got hitched.

first thing a dealer is gonna say..."the oil from the k&n damaged the mass air meter, replaced it and your are all set."until it happens again then they will throw a different part at it.k&n filter should be taken out before you go to a dealer or repair shop because 9 times of of ten the "tech"will say contaminated mass air meter and will not try to find the real problem.just a suggestion from a ex-ford tech, and sorry i left the business in 05 and have never turned a wrench on a fusion.

Thanks for the advice. I was going to take it to a small shop I use sometimes. I rarely take anything to the dealer. Any ideas on what would make a "powertrain" light come on. I can understand the "check engine" emmisions light coming on after running WOT for a while. But I don't have a clue as to what would make the "powertrain" light come on. What sensors feed that light?

Well the code says there is a prob with the "throttle activated control". It's drvie by wire. Talked to our local Ford dealership and they are going to fax me the part of the service manual that covers it.

Yeah, I'm not either. Is there a way to tell which one it is? With out changing one and see if it happens again.
