Is this normal for a new clutch
About a week ago I installed a new brand new Spec stage 1 clutch.
Everything was fine double checked (clutch, pressure plate, flywheel) and install was correct.
The car drives fine and it catches good.
But my car does have a chatter now. Its only when I am taking off and the whole car should shake. It does it only sometimes other times it leaves just fine. I was expecting a slight chatter for new clutches but I didn't think it was cause the whole car to shake.
Also my clutch pedal even at idle vibrates, I do not recall it doing it before the install either.
Are these normal symptoms are do I have a problem?
Also the other day my friend got in the car (he normally drives a 240SX) and pinpointed that my car if its in 1st gear and he just slowly releases the clutch without any gas the car does move forward. It has always been able to do that even before the new clutch. Is that normal too? I never really do it but I am just wondering.

Was your flywheel resurfaced? Is pedal engagement/freeplay all where it should be? I did a clutch in my Ranger last summer and for the first 2-3 weeks it had occasional chatter exactly like you described. Since then, it has been fine. Like brakes, it probably has to go through a few heat cycles to settle in. Just be kind to it for a bit.

I had this kind of problem on 3 of the past camaro's and the car would shake bad, major chatter. It held up and was able to drive it for a while before replacing it. Ofcourse having to much chatter like i did was not good but mine was a stage 3 clutch and after a while i just accepted it even though it shouldnt have been chattering as much as it did. The key is how you do the install which seems youve double checked everything but also how well you break it in. Otherwise my own experience aftermarket clutches will chatter there are some cases for a few people that it doesnt.

Hi,
I am new just joined to-day,
Did you clean all oil or grease from your new flywheel and pressure plate, they come with a coating to stop rust when new.
If not this will cause your clutch to chatter on take off, it will fix its self in time

Normally I would do something like this with my friends but I was in desperate need to have it done fast so I took it to a shop. The first time it had chatter and I made them take it apart and check everything and re-install it. They were a reputable shop and was highly reccomended so ima have to assume they did it correctly.
But lets say they didnt grease the flywheel or clean the oil ect. ect. and the chatter will go away, how long would you think? I have put roughly 300-350 miles on it so far.
BTW welcome to the site. ; )

I have read 500 break-in miles for a new clutch set-up. It is probably different from manufacture to manufacture though.

If it doesn't go away after 500 miles -go to a hill and ride the clutch for a few minutes-LOL

Well not to rain on your parade but chances are the clutch was installed properly and everything however, SPEC clutches are known to chater like craazy. It is very annoying and people riding in the car ask me whats wrong because yes, it shakes the whole car!!
I had a SPEC stage III clutch and was told by the shop that installed that it would only chatter until it got broken in. However, the clutch chattered (on take offs mainly in first gear) for the life of the clutch. thats why i went with a LS7 no chatter! I will say that your case might be slightly different because I had a spec stage III ceramic disc. Not sure the make up of your clutch. just my .02
