Replacement Roof Panel
Our roof panel is bleeding quite nicely on hot sunny days -- the goo will actually streak out and leave snail trails on the paint. I would like to remedy this issue over the winter by replacing the roof panel per the info set forth in previous threads.
Well... the GM Part No. 10254708 replacement roof panel lists for $445.19 through GM Parts Direct. A bit pricey in my book for a 5 pound piece of SMC. Anyone know of another source for replacement panels? And, if there is such a thing, has anyone bought and installed one?

I'd like to see this thread go somewhere so I can stick it. The part number is a good start...just need someone with actual hands on experience with this to post up.

Get lucky at a junkyard.
I got lucky and found one for 20$!!! But I'm a jackass and spaced it out of my things to do list meanwhile they crushed it

I have one from GM but I am in the process of making a mold out of it for a CF panel like the ZR1. The panels have not been licensed out for aftermarket so the only place you are going to get it from is GM.

yeah it sucks. they know the problem and then all you can do is buy it from them again. GMPD is the best place to get it because the price at the dealer went up to almost $800.

Out of curiosity, I called the local GM dealership to price the roof panel. I was quoted $725.00. When I gagged on the phone, I was informed that they could probably discount the price a little if I talked to the department manager.

yeah that is their list. i'm sure you can haggle for it if it is worth it to you to do that. He could sell it to you for a little over cost but as bad as they are hurting he may not deal with you.

Problem is that a junkyard roof panel would probably have the same issue, unless you lucked out and found a car with a panel replaced under warranty. It would be saturated with the factory adhesive and over time would bleed out and/or cause paint issues. If it were just a matter of removing mine and putting it back on with urethane I would have done it.

Ordered the roof panel from GM Parts Direct this morning -- with shipping the total came to $538.68.

Well... the replacement roof panel does not look like much and is a whole lot flimsier than I thought it would be:
Just to show some of what the problem looks like, here is is a picture depiciting the fluid trail from one of the bubbles. The car was washed Saturday morning before a car show and we drove it a little over 35 miles up and back. It sat in the sun for a couple of hours and this is what I found upon returning home (first pic shows it, second pic has it outlined in yellow):
We also have smaller bubbles and others that stream fluid, however, it is very difficult to photograph them as everything reflects off the black paint.
