triple-black- 2000 CamaroSS convertible
that means you need 550lbs of weight to compress the spring by 1"... ie 550lbs/inch
you put 1100lbs, the spring will compress 2"
When applying forces, you transfer weight around... the amount of weight transfer will compress the spring based on the amount of weight transfered... the spring will compress 1" for every 550lbs of weight transfered.
For the back, same principle, but 1" for every 150lbs.
So let's say you weight 150lbs, if you get in the trunk, the rear of the car should lower 1"
Hope it makes sense.
As for progressive, let's say a 300-500 lbs/in progressive spring...
that means that when the spring is uncompressed, the rate is 300... ie takes 300lbs to compress 1"
but as the spring compresses, the rate increases, requiring more weight for each inch as the spring compresses more.
when spring is close to fully compressed in this example, you would require 500lbs for 1" of spring compression.
The problem w/ progressive is proper dampings... ie shock adjustments.
Shocks are meant to dampen springs and they do that by considering the spring rate.
ie, they will critically damp a system given a constant spring rate... if you vary that, the damping ain't good anymore... you'd be either underdamped (oscillating), or overdamped (harsh, shock set too stiff for spring, impeding spring to do its job properly)
so in this case, if you have adjustable shocks, you set them to ~400lbs/in... get a harsh ride on initial compression because shock overdamping the system, but if you get enough compression, the shock cannot handle the higher spring rate... hence the reason it doesn't make a good ride for confort nor for performance.
That's why ppl that race, use linear springs, among other things.Last edited by Eugenio_SS; 06-07-2008 at 01:15 AM.

I'm sure you'll be pleased.... If I remember correctly you have Pro-kits now, right? I always like a nice before/after comparision if you'd be so inclined.

The height won't change much it at all. All springs will set a bit with use, you might see another 1/4" with time but normally it's not quite that much. Give it a few weeks. I'd recommend measuring on a level surface that you can repeat on later just to keep tabs on what's what.
