rear end?
Can anyone tell me what the general concensus is on how much power the 10 bolt can handle? I've heard of people breaking them with nothing more than drag radials. Will drag radials and 4:10's kill the 10 bolt? If not, how much power can be added before the 10 bolt dies? Btw, it's a m6 car.

You can strengthen it up with moser axels, an auburn posi, and the rear end girdle. I've seen it take launch after launch with 4.10 gears and drag radials. The car was making 450 RWHP

It also depends on how you launch. A 4.5-5k rpm clutch dump will break a 10bolt on drag radials or slicks on mostly stock car (if you hook). A4 cars seem a bit easier on the weak 10bolt because not a lot of people installs a 5k stall on a street driven car. As far as upgrading your rear end I would not spend the money on axles and a stronger posi. A $100-125 Rear end girddle is as far as I would go to buy you a bit more time before it blows, then save the rest for a 8.8" or 9" ford or a 12bolt.
there are 2 not 3 certain things on this world:
- Death
- Taxes
- The untimely demise of a GM 7.5 10 bolt

I thought about putting a girdle on my rear. That is as far as I am going on my rear.

my car is my daily driver and I rarely take it to the track (once a year at most). I usually launch at 2500-3000. Since it's my daily driver, I don't want to be wondering everyday if it's gonna break. I plan on getting headers, cat back exhaust, cam (with whatever else I'll need like rockers, etc) lid, tune, subframe connectors, throttle body, intake. From what I've read I should be close to 450 rwhp with these mods. Would a rear end girdle help the 10 bolt handle this power or should I plan on spending the 2300 for a moser 12 bolt?
BTW, I am usually pretty easy on the car, don't usually race much. (every once in awhile I'll get on it)Last edited by mdh100; 09-01-2005 at 10:06 AM.

If you have a doubt that you might want to really get on it I would spend the money. But if your honest and keep in mind that it will break then don't worry about. But you will never really know what your car will turn with that rear in it.

if you are easy on it........it will be ok for a little while but with the mods you plan on getting or you launch fairly often that hard.....you are going to need a new rear end pretty soon.
