Get some software and tune it yourself. Handheld tuners are a waste of $ IMHO.

I agree. Plus if you get the software, you can also tune for future mods when you install them.

A dyno is just a HP & TQ measuring device --you could use a dyno on a handheld tuner also--The types of tunes are handheld or software programmer---The handheld tuner is just an entry level generic tune for the person who wants a simple low intensity tune.Ok for those who aren't that interested in tuning muliple tables as they only touch on a few basic entries. A full programmed software tune has the capability to touch all of the nearly 450 tunable callabrations--Obviously hi-intensity and has the ablity to produce more power and to tune around more complicated mods. For those who are "into it" and enjoy finding performance in several different tables .
Depending on your computer skills and how much time you are willing to put into your car's performance should help you choose which is best for you.

I would recommend a street tune or atleast a tune where they use a wide band o2 to dial in your fuel.

difficulty will be based on your learning curve.

with a full on editing suite, you can change everything. just the high octane table is fun. you have to go by rpm vs grams per cylinder to figure out where you want to change the timing table. then, there's at least 5 other tables that have to do with overall timing. and that's just one aspect of tuning.

Would you guys recommend a tune after air lid and true duals. I have the whisper lid and no cats or mufflers just straight pipes... should i wait? or would it benefit me to go ahead and get a tune?

that is up to you. if it is all you are going to do, sure. if you are going to be doing more modifications later, then maybe hold off, if those mods aren't too far off in the future.
