How to identify what year PCM I have.

When I bought my car I was told that it had a PCM out of an 02 b/c of something to due with tuning. Suppose to make it easier or something. Anyway as I've completed more and more work to the car I've found about 50% of what I was told was bullshit. So basically what I'm wondering is if there is in fact a benefit to upgrading a 98 pcm to a 02, and if so how could I confirm this has been done.

good question. Sounds like you bought your car from the same guy I did. The 99 and up ecm is faster from what I have read. I do not know how to tell the difference. I do know that the plugs are the same just pinned differently.

Here is a thread that talks about some of the differences and swapping from a '98 to newer PCM: http://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread...cm+differences Sounds like a lot of work, so probably unlikely that the PCM has been swapped out.

As best I can tell, we do not have a listing of the PCM identification numbers by year. Here is a chart that I found: http://www.chevythunder.com/LS1%20co...Identification This should answer your question as to what year PCM you have, assuming the information is correct.

If you tune with HPtuners, it will tell you right away what year computer you are dealing with. Just a heads up.
