Need serious opinions on 3 diff heads
OK who knows their $hit because all of these flows numbers and valve sizes and compression crap has me confused. I am running a full bolt on '00 TA. When installing heads I will also be putting a LS6 manifold on, and I am running a TR224 cam 114. Budget allows for $1400 max, so these 4 fit what I am willing to spend. I have no clue about the diff compression #'s or valve sizes mentioned in other threads can comeone enlighten me to what I should be trying to accomplish? This is not a track car, just a soon to be weekend cruiser that can kick ass when called upon! Choices are:
Texas Speed PRC 5.3
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...id=84&catid=20
Texas Speed LS6 ported Stage 1
http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/item...d=649&catid=20
Patriot LS6 ported
https://www.patriot-performance.com/...ome.php?cat=37
with the Patriot they list several diff assembled heads with diff valve sizes and cc #'s, thats where I get confused which size do I need?
or Patriot 5.3 ported again whats the diff between 5.3 ported and LS6 ported?
https://www.patriot-performance.com/...ome.php?cat=36
ANY help or tutorials on what all of these #s mean is appreciated...........

Get the Patriot LS6 stage II's.
Call Patriot, talk to them about what chambers and valves to get.

The more research I do the more my setup points towards the PRC 5.3 head milled for more compression. I've read numerous threads and the TR224 cam seems to LOVE the higher compression for midrange power with the 5.3

patriot ls6 heads, with 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust, keep in mind you can have the heads milled down to bump the compression up and get close to what the 5.3's will do but you will have way more midrange power and torque not just dyno numbers but real world useable power.

I fought with this for a while myself and ended up going with the PRC Stage 2.5 5.3L heads. When mated with my "middle of the road" TFS cam, I put down 440 rwhp and 408 rwtq and my car is FAR from being a dyno queen. I had the heads milled down to 60 cc and the compression is close to 11.0:1 (compliments my N2O setup). The combo gives GREAT power throughout the band and driveability is great. Despite the peak gains up top, the most notable difference with the "seat of the pants" dyno is down low.
I'm sure I could pull more out of my combo with a larger cam and AFR's or Trick Flow heads, however for a budget combo I was quite pleased with the results.
I'm not trying to sell you on the 5.3's by any means and frankly the Patriot LS6 heads and the PRC LS6 heads have yielded great results for many folks as well. Hopefully a little insight on my own experiences will help you with your decision.2002 Camaro SS M6, 2.5 PRC 5.3L heads, TFS 228/230 cam, FAST 92, bolt ons + a 10 lb bottle in the back.
1989 Corvette L98, A4, Full bolt ons, etc.

AWESOME stuff there I appreciate it greatly! I am torn myself, Gunnar at Patriot has recommended hisstage II 64cc 243 heads. Texas Speed rec the 5.3 PRC 59cc milled heads..................whats teh difference in power between the 2??? Do the Stage 2 have more potential for power? I have been told by a few peeps that the 5.3 milled is a perfect match for the TR224 cam.......all so confusing! Whats teh diff between the 2 rec heads?? I want a great under the curve and across the powerband car, not just peak HP

do NOT buy 64cc heads, that's flat giving away power... The 59cc heads should clear your setup and will make great power. ALWAYS go up in compression when you can get away with it.
