Engine backfired, now the car wont start??
Last night I went to the dragstrip. The good news is I run a 7.60 with a 1.668 60 foot, but now my car wont run. On my fourth run (while spraying 100 shot) the car started to backfire, and the lid blew off (the metal straps come undone but nothing was damanged). So I let the car sit, then run it again and that's when I run a 7.60. So after that exciting run I waited about 5-10 min and returned to the pits. On my last run It backfired and then the car died. There are no leaks, the engine still turns over normally and it's NOT freespinning. I checked all the fuses, and all seemed to be ok, but when we pulled one of the wires to check the spark(fire) I had no spark. There is a video of the run where the car died below, whats going on?

So it'll spin over but has no spark? Could it be the computer?

I don't think the computer as a whole is bad, because if it was the case I would think that nothing in the car would work. Which everything else does.

Yea sounds like like you blew out your MAF with the NOS back fire. If its not picking up air flow its not gonna fire spark or fuel I would guess.
Just watched the video. Your leaving late on the light, but what ever. I would deinfatly tear into the intake side of the motor to check for damage and possibly dare go as far as the heads to check for burnt valves, push rods and broked springs as it seem that you have also floated the valves.Last edited by Orcus79; 04-20-2008 at 09:58 AM. I think it's the MAF or the crank sensor

I don't know what the A/F ratio is, but the car was tuned by Mayhem Motorsports in Raleigh NC

tuned for nitrous i hope. You shouldn't be backfirin w a 100 shot. I asume it is a wet kit. I don't spray till 3300 just to be safe. Do you have a WS and what rpm did you have it set at ?

As the others have stated, it's probably worthwhile to take a look at the MAF sensor to see if the wires were damaged during the N20 backfire. Did you have a window switch and WOT switch setup for your 100 shot?
I just noticed that the track you were running at has a Biggs Cadillac billboard.....I grew up in Elizabeth City, NC. Which track were you running at?2002 Camaro SS M6, 2.5 PRC 5.3L heads, TFS 228/230 cam, FAST 92, bolt ons + a 10 lb bottle in the back.
1989 Corvette L98, A4, Full bolt ons, etc.

My friend works at a chevrolet dealership, and he put a scan tool on my car, He thinks the maf sensor is bad b/c all the codes relate back to the maf sensor. The codes were:
P0101
P0102
P0128
P0132
P0155
P0300
P0335
P1135
P1153
P1637
could the maf sensor not working cause the car not to have spark(fire)? What Maf sensor should I buy, my car was tuned with a Granatelli Motor Sports Mass Airflow Sensor, so what sensor should I buy?

The short answer to that question is "absolutely".....sounds like your MAF sensor will more than likely need to be replaced. Pull it off the car and take a look at it....it doesn't take much to break the tiny little wires on the sensor. If you were tuned with a GMS MAF sensor, I'd replace it with one....used ones all over LS1tech.com in the $100 range.
I figured you were at Northeast Dragway in E.C. I'm coming to visit my family in E.C. in July and have been debating making the drive with my SS in hopes that I could get a few runs in while I'm there!
