Internals of a Catch Can???
Ok, so, I just bought one of those cheap catch cans off of Ebay and got it in the mail. The kit looks pretty good. Came with all the brackets, clamps, hoses, and can itself. The only problem is that the catch can itself is empty??? Isn't there supose to be some kind of filter element inside to filter the oil vapors??? I'm not to firmilar with the internals of a catch can but it would seem like there should be something inside it.

All the ones I have seen have nothing in them.
EDIT: These were more like a combination of catch can and breather though. They were just hooked up to the valve cover(s) and did not recirculate back into the intake. They simply were a way to vent the crank pressure without the oil going back into the intake like when using the pcv.Last edited by partemisio; 10-04-2010 at 08:15 PM.

Custom Swirly Black- 2001 WS6 M6
I'm under the impression that the nicer ones, $150+, have the mesh filter.
I also have the eBay cheap shit can, but put it on the jeep. It's too sad to put on the car.
Keep in mind, a catch can works 3 ways to prevent "blow by."
1. Filtering the "air"
2. Changing the "air's" direction
3. Changing the "air's" temp.
I think the eBay can does 2 and 3 moderately, so it isn't a total waste.

Hey thanks for the info guys. I thought it would have been totally useless since the can was empty, but I guess it will help alittle.

I was considering one myself. Ive seen a few nice looking red ones that arnt $150. I was wondering if it mattered. So an ebay one would be ok?

most of the time it is a empty can with maybe some webbing...if you are going to do it..do it right is my mentality ..we will spend over 1k on parts for our cars..but will than try and save 20-50 bucks on other things..its silly to me. the michi can is what i suggest to all and what i will use
