Will my rear end snap ???
I have a 2000 trans am with 3:42 gears and a Yank SS3200 converter an axle back and a lid.... Will I snap my rear end If I use drag radials???
I tried my car at the track with the Yank installed and the 2:73 gears I ran a 13.29 at 104 mph with a 2.16 or worst 60 foot with no traction So with the 3:42 gears and the teh DRadials I confident I'll break 13 sec but I don't want to break the rear end
I have series 2 carrier with a thick gear by Motive so I just don't know if I should risk it
I just bought a set of Mickey Thomson DR 26x17x11.5 new for 200 bucks with the rims the guy totalled his car before he could use them. My car has 305rwhp at 317ft p of torque Not bad for a stocker suppose to dev 305 at the crank I love my car :-)Last edited by Durango; 07-01-2011 at 07:41 AM. Reason: bad spelling :-)

It's possible. ppl have broke them with the same mods.
All it takes is DR and a good hot day and sticky tires.
If you do, it gives you a reason to go for a 12 bolt rear with 4.10/11 gears

I guess
I spent 5 grand on the car this year on rims tires Yank gears hood maybe more than 5k actually I'm taped out so maybe I'll just keep my street tires to rac I can't afford another 2500 to 3 grand on a rear end that's for sure

I wouldn't put the slicks on. Traction + 10 bolt = problems, usually.

Once you start modding your Fbody you're pretty much on borrowed time with both your A4 and your 10 bolt. You could sell the wheel/tire combo and get you some LT's and a good catback and probably hit your mark.

You should EASILY be in the 12's with that size stall...even with street tires.
Unless you have a horrible DA.

Yea, but.... If hes stalling, then everything will be preloaded... much different than dropping the clutch at said rpms.....

No traction
My problem right now is no traction so I can't use my stall at all even flashing it is terrible and that's with 2:73's the 3:42's are going in Monday so I'll do the 500 miles break in and try it without the slicks for fun I think I'll try 1 or 2 passes with slicks and sell them I hope for the best

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
I preload to about 2500 and stomp on it at the light with DR's and my car does a dead hook with a 1.7x 60'. More preload and it spins the DR's.
I've yet to snap anything but I have burned out a few posi's and trashed a few gear sets.
This was all with the 02 over 6 years.67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...
2005 Corvette LS2/M6 Magnetic Red Metallic (What else would it be?) w/ Cashmere interior
2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73). Tuned: 343rwhp/357rwt (before TD's). Best: 12.559 @ 108+, 1.73 60' @ 3500' DA w/MT ET Street DR's.
Carbon footprint? CLOWN SHOE!

I ran a 3500 for 3 years with no problems. I first had Nitto's and the went to ET Streets. The auto is much more forgiving on the 10 bolt. Not that you can not break it with your combo. But I don't think you will break as fast as many think. I went with a cam and gears so I went 3.73's. But IMO if I had stayed with just headers and a 3500 TCI. I think it would still be driving on the stock 10 today. Running mid to low 12's...

Thanks
I have to try it a few passes I will gamble cause I need to know with hooking what it will do I'm guessing a high 12 sec pass Since a 13.29 with 2:73's with a 3/4 pedal take off at a .516 light and a 2.16 bad 60 foot IF I would get a 1.7 60 foot plus 3:42 gears Man maybe even a 12.7 or 12.8

For every .1 you cut off your 60' time, you're shaving about .2 down at the big end.

Should do better than that with stickies.
My 02 SS vert with just headers, off road Y, a tune, and a 3400 stall, running it on stock rubber, I went a 12.76 at 107 mph. I only cut a 1.90 60 foot time. That was with the factory 3.23's and the stock catback.
With a little practice, the right air pressure, and some weight in the trunk, you can hook fairly well on stock street tires, I do
With a sticky tire on the car, where I could really wail on it, I'm confident the car would go 1.70 60 foot times and probably drop into the 12.40 to 12.50 zone. I don't think you are giving your car enough credit

You dont need 500 miles. Do some heat cycles, not much constant mph, put 100 miles on and then run the piss out of it!
So my Z28 I am cutting 2.0s and high 1.9s and getting 13.0-13.1.......so when I cut 1.905 with my 2004 GTO M6 I could have ran the same time or better? Highly doubting that a stock 04 GTO would hit 13 flat! lol

35th is correct. You cut one tenth off your 60 and it will equate roughly to dropping two tenths at the end of the 1320. This has been a general rule of thumb since drag racing began.
You are confusing the math with another car, that you can't possibly compare times with. Your theory might work if both cars weighed the same, and they turned about the same MPH. Otherwise,,,,,,no.
Sticking to one vehicle at a time, and looking at your GTO. Lets say it ran a 13.20 at a decent MPH of about 107, but the 60 foot sucked at 2.1.
Drop that 60 down to a 2.0, and keeping the rest of the run identical assuming you are a good enough driver to be that consistent, and the DA hasn't changed at all since your first run,,,,then the car should dip into the 13.0's easily.
