maf screen removal
Hi I am new here but I have done a little research and I think I want to remove my maf screen. Just was curious to ask those of you who have how hard the screen is to pull out, and if you know any tricks?
Thanks in advance

so no one here on this fourm has done it, I have heard it can help a little and is a free mod. I checked my screen and it seems to have only stopped a few peices of grass, so i feel its not needed. I just dont want to start pulling on it and like half rip off or get bent and then not be able to get it all the way out. So Anyone who has done this please chime in

You can buy new maf ends that have no screen, incase you want to put the screen back on.

Leave it on. The first time I changed the filter I had a leaf in there. If it wasnt for the screen it would have been in the engine.

it'll pop right out with a screw driver. just stick in on the edge and jank it out .... I've had no problems with my fipk2 from k&n and even on the '98 nothing has really gone in there and it just has the slp lid and the k&n filter.
sandman you really had a leaf in there?!
if your looking for free mods, you should also do the throttle body bypass.

I'll second that. It's the way to go just in case you want to switch it back. Because chances are good that the screen will get a little boogered up when removing, and won't go back in properly.
We bought my wifes car with these ported and screenless MAF ends on the car already. Had to work on the MAF tables a bit to get it right, but seems to work fine otherwise.
I know this is considered one of the free mods, in my opinion it's really not a free mod,,,,because it requires tuning after the fact. But if you really don't want to spend the money on some ported/screenless ends,,,I'd just leave it alone.

The very little gain you well get from this is not worth running the risk of sucking in trash into the engine. Like Cutlass said look other places for mods.
Also when I had my car tuned at LS1 Speed Inc. they highly recommended leaving the screen in place due the trash issue and that the screen stabilizes the airflow across the MAF allowing it to get better and more accurate readings.1998 Camaro SS Hard Coupe Bright Red #1593
