brake caliper boots
Hi guys while I replaced my hubs i noticed that my front caliper boots around the pistons are torn. Is this something i should replace? Is it critical to put new ones in? I use ceramic pads so i don't have alot of dust. But im not sure about water and the elements. thanks.

Should be replaced imo. Dirt, road grime and moisture will eventually work its way in there and cause problems. You can sometimes fake a repair with Permatex Black Silicone if it is just a small tear.

yeah, replace them. It will let dirt and water in there and freeze those up at some point.

i was looking at the boots today. Do i need to remove the piston to get the boot off? or Can i just pry them out? thanks.

I don't think you have to pull the piston out, but I could be wrong. I have never dealt with torn piston boots before. I think they just pull out with a pick tool. I know most shops would suggest remanufactured calipers. Your choice though.
