Might sound dumb, but did you check to see if there is still oil in the engine?

Just to be sure...low oil or change oil? Change oil I'd just reset it, low oil check the level - the sensor is in the pan on the passenger side and comes on when you're about 2 quarts low.

check oil level first; then check wires/plug at oil sensor. I had light, was damaged wire at sensor--easy, inexpensive fix.

All sensors are functioning becasue when the "Low Oil" light comes on im 2 quarts low... im just wondering if this is in any way normal for this car or if i have bad ring or valves in the motor... because the car isnt leaking oil... timer was reset everything else is ok its just that im loosing 2 quarts of oil in 1800 miles... Thanks for all your feedback guys...

ls1's eat oil... its a pcv thing... actually you have an 01... which has an ls6 intake... so the pcv thing should be fixed... my vette eats like 4 quarts per oil change...

At times my LS1 does eat some oil it has happened to me as well probably not in the last 40K miles however. I noticed it quite frequently around 70 - 85 K miles. Not since then though just keep an eye on it if your panicky go have a compresion test done on it and I have also heard a leak down test but honestly I don't know what the leak down test does - maybe someone can school me on that one. Good luck keep us posted.

LS1 eats oil???
Every time I change my oil My level has only gone down MAYBE a quarter of a quart. Change it every 3k with mobil and have had it for almost 30k miles now. I would think if your using that much oil you have a deffinite problem somewhere IMO.

I also may start a fight here but dont use fram filters, I use to but every time it was time to change the oil the grip stuff would wear off and i would have to put a screw driver thru it to get it off, i have switched to NAPA Gold filters, they seem to filter better, seal better and come off in a snap. I have 2 LS1 engines and a LT1 both on NAPA and Mobile 1

Also did you start out with the oil "topped off" ?, if you start off low on oil...

i appreciate all of your input guys... basically i have many issues with this motor and oil is just one of them... first of all just as a responce so you know the oil was topped off nothing is leaking and i lost 2 quarts in 1180 miles... this is not normal but neither is the noise coming from the bottom of the motor... i either have a bad cam bering, crank case bering, or some other shit that i cant figure out... iv been thinking about just driving it until it blows up and then let them worry about it...

You need to check your oil pressure and see if it is droping. You might have a main or rod bearing going out. 1800 miles and the loss of 2 quarts of oil is not normal unless you run the piss out of it or it is built which in your case is not the problem.Don't run it till it blows it will cost a shit load more if you do.You need to run a thicker oil than ouy are running now. Something with a higher viscosity like 10w 30 or even 20w50 which is what i run in my TA. If you need any more help trying to fgure this problem ou tjust post them and i will help you, but it sounds like to me that you have internal damage.

Well my car only has 34,000 miles on it and it is covered under a full 2 year 24K mile warrantee... so either i pay to rebuild the motor now out of pocket... or i wait for it to explode and then they pay for it... but they wont open it up until something breaks... it sucks i dont wana damage more parts of my car becasue there a bunch of morons... im at a loss as far as what i should do at this point...

That really sucks. Just run the piss out of it until it breaks. Sorry about the luck. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Sorry for bringing back such an old thread but I had this problem I used about a quart of oil every 600 miles. I checked my pcv valve and it was completely full of oil so I replaced the pcv valve with a fixed orifice valve part number 12572717 I had to go to the dealership to get it.
Here is a write up thing about it I found on this site a while ago
http://www.mightyautoparts.com/pdf/articles/tt122.pdf
Anyway it has been about 3000 miles since I changed the valve and I have used absolutely no oil since. And it idles better.
Hope this could be of some help

A catch can is also another option...AMW sells them or you can make one. http://www.accmachtech.com/pcvcatchcans.htm
