How Much Resale ($) from a New Engine?

If you put a new V8 engine in your Bird, how much money is that worth on the market? For example, has anyone heard of a Trans Am with a new engine selling for x more than a very similar car with plenty of miles on it?

Most if not all vehicles devalue without the original engine installed, now this is from a dealership point of view, someone who is a gearhead will appreciate a performance modification, but most people will see it as sign of a problem vehicle.

I'd see it as a likely positive, in a vehicle with many, many miles. That is, if the new engine were to come with documentation.

    it's a selling point, that's aboot it.

think of what the car is worth with no engine at all.

I bought my WS6 with only 26k on the engine. Documentation and all. I paid $9000. Had nothing wrong with it at all. Shifted perfect, suspension wasn't squeaky or rough.. Full borla catback also and a whisper lid. And some TT2's.

Nine. Grand. With. An. Almost. Fresh. Engine.

I for one consider it an amazing deal. I feel like I ripped the guy off, though.

Ah, a real-world example. When did you buy it, and what was the odometer reading then?

In the collector car field numbers matching cars are highly prized bringing much more money.

Last May. Right before summer officially started. Odometer said 136k. I had been in touch with him before and he had told me about the engine. Showed me all the documentation, had it checked out to be matching (so he didn't just save the new engine and switch the old one back)

He was a really cool guy. Was from a richer family and when the engine crapped out on him, the just paid for a brand new one rather than fixing a high mileage one.

Thanks. It sounds like you paid little or nothing extra for that engine.

    00 NHRA Formula

I bought mine with only 20-25K on a new factory long block with 97K on the rest of the car. It definitly added more value to me having a newer engine that ran smooth and great, but I didnt necessarily pay more for it. All the documentation totalled about $7K i believe for the new long block and installation at the dealer. Personally I would think a newer engine would up the value a bit...i mean cmon who wouldnt want a newer engine in their car right?

All in all I paid right around market value for a LS1 formula...but it just so happened I got a NHRA edition and a newer engine with it....prices depend 100% on finding the right/specific buyer and seller.
