I am dying to find out what my car will do top end. From my online research I have found out it is governed @ 160 m.p.h. Is that true ? If so how can I ungovern it ? I am to chicken to open it up all the way. I have went 110 m.p.h. a few times but always let off. lol . Whats the fastest all u other guys have went ?

HUGGER ORANGE- 1999 camaro SS
SS's shouldnt have a governor on them. i have personally hit 250k/160mph on the odometer in mine, before some moron pulled out in front of me on the highway. it was still picking up speed. in sixth the rpms were just about at 2000.
really, how can you miss a big bright orange coming at you doing over twice the speed you are?!!!?

White- stolen by "Josh Steel"
If you look over the passenger side wheel well under the hood there should be a lone red wire with a quick disconect. it is used for tuning the car's timeing. if you disconnect it you can cram any timeing down the computers throat untill you plug it back in. this will disable any speed block if you have it. got mine to burry the needel when I was out in Montana. I had also already used the hypertech power programer. I don't know if it acutly has a speed block or not so I just but it up the the max 225mph (I think). Any way, unless you have a lot of straight road with plenty of visibility the speed block shoud never pose a problem for you if it has on at all. The red wire trick works on almost all OBDII GM products as well. usualyl in the same location. Be forwarned, the wire will also disable tachomiter and rev limiter, you will have to shift on the pipe alone.

blacker than wesleysnipes- 98' trans am
no all camaros and firebirds have governors on them..it has to do with the speed rating of the tires...depending on what tires you have on now..the speedo will be off...since at those speeds tires deform slightly..so yea the speedo said 160..but you probbally only going 155ish..so thats why you were still pulling

HPTuners says that the governor is set at 162 mph from the factory for 2001 LS1 Camaros. I only hit the governor once racing a 2002 Z06 on the interstate. It sucked because it just cut the engine off. I've since had the governor bumped up. I don't think that you can completely erase the governor with HPTuners, but you can bump it up to like 256 mph so that there is no way you could hit it.

414 RWHP 395 RWTQ- 00 Black Ram Air Trans Am
I hit 147 with just a cutout and a lid coming home from Syracuse before on open roads. With all my mod slisted below I've only had enough road to get up to 143 before having to brake.

I've had my 98 T/A up to 150mph, but had to slow down because I was approaching a curve. My older brother has had his SS to 155mph+ and he says it was still picking up speed before he let off.
