Factory SS hood or not?
How do you tell if your SS hood is stock or not? My car didn't come from the factory with it since it's a V6 and the hood is not lining up flush anymore so it makes me wonder. Are the factory hoods metal or fiberglass?
This is the driver side of the hood that is no aligned properly.

And passenger side is fine.

I don't know if aligning it would work because if I did that the corner of the hood closest to the driver side windshield would get pinched even more. What should I do? Someone please tell me if this is a factory hood or not. I can't find any marking on the hood that indicate it's factory so any help would be great.

I doubt its a OEM hood if it's that bad off alignment. I put a Certifit Ram Air hood on my 98 and while its not too bad on the alignment the surface of the hood is bad and the body shop couldn't do too much work on it for fear or making it worse. On my 02 they put a OEM hood when I had accident and that hood aligns perfectly!

from the pictures the hood looks like its an aftermarket product do to the hard time of lining it up. im not sure on the factory ss hoods being fiberglass or not but i know the original hood that came on your car is metal. do to the fact that its not lining up its aftermarket but it could always be errors when installing.... also from the pictures it looks like your fenders or your front bumper is off but i may be wrong?

It look like after market hood. Cuz the fitting Is horrible.
I had that on my z28 and I had to buy a original ss hood. Fit perfect
One thing has the after market hood. Is very light weight. And the original hood is do heavy.

This...
I would'nt run an after market hood if someone payed me.. Especially after it taking me days to get my car into a ~3mm fit and finish.. My car is super strait better than factory, I could'nt bring myself to buy one of those goofy looking hoods just for a fake cowl induction look.. One corner up one down, 0mm here 20mm there.. Imho if you want to take a nice f-body and make it look like garbage put an after market hood on it... Sorry if that stings anyone, but it's the truth.. I have'nt seen an after market hood worth a spit..Last edited by Smittro; 09-14-2010 at 06:33 AM.

OEM hoods are fiberglass,,,not metal.
In fact, the OEM SS hoods will have a part number that is either stamped or molded (can't quite tell) into the underside of the hood near passenger side rear at about the 7 o'clock position. Both of my SS's have a (GM or SLP) part number in that location.

Well some people here like to think that of me anyway
No go on the picture, I had to zoom in real close just to pick it up, and it turns out too fuzzy to see. Doesn't help that the car is dark blue anyway making it harder to see.
My wifes SS is silver and it's plain as day visible, but she drove it to work.
If the original poster has a legit SS OEM hood you'll see the patent number towards the bottom of the hood and next to it says "Made in Canada"

the factory hoods are actually not even fiberglass they are sheet molded compound A.K.A. SMC and if you look on the underside you will see stamped in it "made in canada" and I think it says "SMC" too
