Need a Background Check
I have an employee that I recently heard some disturbing information about. I know that he was arrested and he had to miss 10 days of work because of it.
I looked up his information at nmcourts.gov but it only listed his case as an order to extradite him to Georgia where he is wanted as a fugitive. He told me that everything was taken care of and he is no longer in any trouble. However, he would not tell me what he was wanted for.
I've heard rumors that it was because he sexually abused small children but I'm not sure how to find out for sure. I would like to do a background check on him to find proof but it seems like a lot of sites are nothing but scams and rip-offs.
Please help me with this. I'm sure there is someone on here that has done a background check before.

If he has been convicted of sexually abusing children then he must register as a sex offender. You can find that info here: http://www.familywatchdog.us/

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I've been away for a while. I'm a Pats fan and I am active in stocks and stock options so that has taken up a lot of my time on various other message boards. With Brady getting assassinated for the season and the $2 trillion bailout plan being proposed by a government that took 5 days to get water to the Super Dome after Katrina, I've been a bit nervous.
Anyway, I asked him but he would not tell me what he did. I told him that it wasn't good for our employer/employee relationship to keep it from me but he didn't seem to care. He told me that if the facts got out it would ruin him in the community and he left it at that.
Is it really illegal to run a background check without an employee's knowledge? His info didn't come up on that family watchdog site so that leads me to think it happened when he was still a minor. He is only 28 and he told me it happened about a decade ago so that makes sense.
I also tried to look up his court records in Georgia but that didn't work out well, either. It seems like every time I try, some "people search" thing comes up, I research the name of the company doing the searching, then find out that it is a scam and that people have been burned by the company.
Is there anything out there that is legit? I've got a neighbor who is a state cop so maybe he could help me.

This is from employeeissues.com.
Employment background checks are generally legal. (Much personal information is a matter of public record these days. Anyone can legally access public records.) In fact, the Federal government requires its agencies and private-sector contractors to conduct background checks for certain jobs, often as part of security clearance investigations.
Additionally, certain state and Federal laws require employers to conduct background checks (such as for criminal records) when jobs involve "vulnerable" individuals, such as children and people who are sick, disabled or elderly.
However, state and Federal laws do regulate background checks to some degree; for example, an investigative agency hired by an employer cannot conduct a credit check without a job applicant's permission and must disclose the applicant's rights.
Technically, job applicants may refuse to authorize background checks; but, in reality, they typically must if they wish to land new jobs.
It's a misconception that it's illegal for employers to disclose information about former employees during employment background checks. Generally, relevant state laws allow employers to disclose information about former employees, as long as the information is truthful, factual and limited to employment matters. Read the next page for more about this.

If it happened before he was 18 you won't find anything out, his record would have been sealed on his 18th b-day and a background check will not come up with it.

However, you could probably work with your states Department of Commerce or go through the Better Business Bureau to identify some legitimate businesses that perform this service.

That's true. I didn't think about the fact that his record might be sealed.
He is a good employee but sex crimes against children don't sit very well with me. I would almost rather him tell me he killed people than to learn he raped little children.

The shitty thing about that is he could've been banging his 16/17 year old g/f when he was 18...he'd still get charged with some sort of lewd act with a minor. In the eyes of the law it seems like a sex offender is a sex offender...whether you're molesting little kids or banging your high school sweetheart. At least you're trying to get details before you burn the guy.
I came home from leave years ago and found out from an old friend that he was a convicted sex offender. He got drunk and fucked some high school chic at a college party...she went bragging to all her friends and he got locked up. He didn't do much time but he still got fucked with probation and got that awesome label.

LOL at the kiddie porn idea. That is a good one.
I have talked to some of his friends that I know fairly well myself and they seem to think he had some trouble with small children as well.
One of them said a small girl was sitting on his lap during a Super Bowl party and he could have sworn the guy had wood when she jumped off of his lap. That shit really gets to me.
Not knowing is driving me absolutely crazy, but I don't want to waste my money on online rip offs either. I've been looking at different background search websites but they all seem fishy to me. Surely there is something out there that is legit.

let me ask my wife...she just showed me a website a few weeks ago where you can do a name search and it'll show any convictions they've had.
