Push Rod Length for 383 Stroker...Help!!
Just got my 383 running and after 90 miles of break in I had about 4 push rods bend.. Talked to the guy that built my motor and he gave me the wrong size.( stock Ls1 7.400). I checked the gap under one of the good pushrods rocker arms to the top of a released vavle and it was not even .010 and the guy said it needed to be between .040 and .065. What pushrod do I need to go with to solve the issue..? 7.325 or 7.50? I can do the math but was going to see what others thought.

Are you running solids or hydraulics? It sounds like you are measuring clearance between the rocker tip and the valve stem like a solid roller setup.

At least a 0.80" WALL
You need to get a adj. pushrod to figure out what length you really need!!!!!
You have to spin the motor over and watch what the rocker is doing compared to he valve tip.....You don't want it to walk all the way off the edge and you don't want it to start on the edge.......
NO ONE WILL BE ABLE TO TELL YOU WITH OUT DOING THIS!!!!
EVERY MOTOR IS DIFFERENT....HEAD GASKET THICKNESS,HEAD MILLING,AND CAM WEAR ALL EFFECT CORRECT LENGTH.
I ALWAYS RUN SMITH BROTHERS.....AWSOME PRODUCT AND SAME DAY TURN AROUND!!!
Hope I helped.Last edited by mrr23; 11-03-2006 at 06:47 PM.
