It's not hard to hit 500 from a 454. Them big blocks turn monster torque too. Most were low compression from the factory and swapping in higher compression pistons, better heads and bigger cam will do wonders for one and not cost that much. I love big blocks! The LSX motors are the first ones that can easily compete with them. If he didn't swap pistons you might take him, but be ready for a good race!

yea i know big blocks have alot of potential... my dad has a 70 GTO with a 455 with the ram air 4 auto with stall and a 12 rear. all factory, but b4 he sent it off to be restored we raced them and it was a toss up. cant wait to see it when its done. but im still workin on the setup in this kids car. nobody knows much...

of my F-Bodies- Too tough to pick just 1
OK, I love 4th gens, but I can't believe what I'm reading. For example: the 1970 LS6 was listed at 450 HP which is widely regarded as understated due to insurance and government pressures. It was probably 500 HP factory without electronic ignition. My SS is fast for a modern car, but my 70 RS/SS is in a completely different category. Modern technology is great, comfortable, etc. However, modern technology hasn't gotten us back to the moon or built a car under 70K that can hang with the stuff coming out almost 40 years ago.
If you think I'm biased check my sig vvvMy F-Body Page: http://www.freewebs.com/fbodyreddevil/
70 RS/SS 396: 470 RWHP, 454, Merlin heads, TRW forged pistons, dual quads, TH400, 4.10's
79 T/A: 310 HP 403, forged pistons, TH350, 3.73's
79 Z28: Factory correct, Borg-Warner T-10, 3.73's
96 WS6, 4L60
99 SS: #284, T56

your right about the power but this is how i see it and is only my opionion. what are the times on both cars. if he is running on 15 street tires hes probably got a traction problem. not to say the ta wont but i also asked the wager amount and how the bet came about. these are things we need to take into consideration. ive raced a balanced and blue printed 454 and lost my bumper to his front tire. dont know his horsepower or anything but i got him out of the hole and he pulled on me just enough to get me at the end there are many things to consider such as gears tires and unlimited other things but the car with the most hp doesnt win the car with the lowest time does. i say if the bet is not to high try it at least you know were you stand and what you need to do to win next time.

This all came about when i was at the pumps and he had just got it. Setting-- i live in a town of only like 5000 ppl but so far im the guy to beat the closest was an 455 trans am from somewhere in the 70s. he goes so when we gonna race and i said only if its for some money so he goes ok 50 bucks. i said im going to be richer after this just to get a rise outa him and he goes nope i got 500 horsepower. As for tires on his they are stock everyday tires so more than likely he will floor it and spin forever instead of hokking up....Ive been practicing my launches and got em figgured out bout as good as it gets.

Wanna race my so called 450 horse Camaro?
I run 11's.
13's are legit...when tested by professionals. BTW, all but one magazine test put the LS1 deep in the 13's.

Black- 2002 T/A WS6
this kid sounds like an idiot considering him as the driver i dont think it would matter if his car had 800hp odds are against him, infact i think the more hp the car has the more it increases his chances of loosing
