ford 9"
I wanted thoughts and opinions.
I have an old ford 9" out of a 66 mustang laying here and had the thouht of possibly working it under the goats backend by fabbingup a 4 link or ladderbar setup.
reason for doing so, strength, weight reduction and maybe help traction.
do you think it would be a plus or minus for racing. I didn't buy the car for a plush comfy ride.

Yes, It will give you strength and and elimate whell hop with the four link set up right. It will be a lot of work and a one peice drive shaft will be a must. You will also need frame stiffiners. If it is going to be a race car IMHO you are on the right track! good luck

Over 3 years later, and I'm finally doing it..... Ford 9", 4 link suspension, tubbed with 31-18.5 15s on 18" wide Crater ss 15's
Rear subframe is pretty much done, 9" rear is mounted to the subframe, one wheel widened with a tire on it.....now its just about time to start cutting out the rear floor and wheel wells to fit the new subframe (hope to test fit this weekend)

For one, a 66 stang did not come with a 9 inch, unless someone put it there aftermarket.
And it wont affect the ride in your car, because it still require all of your suspension.

Your right about the 66, it was an 8"......but I ended up getting rid of the 8" and going with a later 9".....I think I should be VERY happy with the end results. With almost a total of a 40" contact patch I hope my traction problems will be over lol
Also dropped a locker and 4.56 gears in the rear

All the old brackets cut off the rear end the new brackets welded on.
Widened 15 x 18" crager ss's
New rear subframe with wheel and 31-18.5 15 tire mounted
Fully adjustable 4 link bars
My son in one of the new tires lol
