What's the ball park for installation cost of those mods? (Headers in particular). Also, what is wrong with K&N?

You'll have to check the shops around your area. I install everthing, and/or make it myself so sorry I can't throw out a figure... K&N filters are not always a good thing for our maf's, same is sometimes true with the ls1 cars too. The oil is hard on the maf for one, and it's been shown that K&N filters allow alot of particulates pass right through and into the engine..

Some places yes others no.. Though here in PA even the areas that don't require emissions testing are still required to check visually that the cat is there. This type of inspection is usually in country/rural areas and a gutted cat will pass, just has to look like it has one. However in the cities they are very strict and test for it's function among a list of other BS tests.. Here if your yearly mileage is under 5k per year you can get an exempt sticker and slide without a test..

Your best bet @ power from your l36 will be internal and bolt ons. Headers and exhaust will get you started relatively cheap. Tho some headers for our cars are pricey. Internally you can always go with a cam, and some mild porting/polish. As the l36 heads don't give you much (almost nothing) to work with for porting on the intake side but the exhaust side is anything but ideal as far as flow and could stand some working..

Your not going to be competive against a stock (01)cobra or stock f-body w/ headers.

Obviously. Noone has said they would. Most of the v6 community knows this as well. Hell just about anyone whom knows something about engines can tell you that.. Also someone with a 3800 pulling wheel stands or running 9-10-11 sec is'nt going to waste time looking for a stock 13sec ls1 powered car in their rear view.. We also don't need to build the same power as a stock ls1 car either to be competative because we are lighter..

Looks like I hit a sore spot-the mrs. a little rough on you last night?
I'm just sayin being competitive against a prelude won't get you by for long.
I don't have audio currently but i'm guessing the v-6's that are whoopin on v-8's aren't n/a and out of the op's price range, am I right?
