First Death + Driver Mod = Kill
A few nights ago I went to pick up the SS from Vengeance (making a few adjustments to the tune). On the way back I passed by a WRX and threw him a little rev as I passed him on the highway. He responded with a downshift and I got an earful of BOV.
We both slowed down and he started to honk it off. I was planning to start in 3rd gear, however we kept slowing down and were around 50 mph at honk #1. I quickly ripped it into 2nd gear and the 3rd honk followed immediately thereafter. What happened next came as a surprise to me.....I roasted the tires and the rear end started to slide out and my new friend in the WRX was walking! I finally caught traction in 3rd and was able to stop his pull, however he still had a car length on my by 110 and we both slowed down.
Now that I was much more aware of what I was dealing with (an apparently well modded WRX), I asked him if he wanted to go again. He obliged. We slowed to 45 mph and he honked it off again. I was already sitting in second gear this time and was wise enough to feather into the throttle at the start. He got about a fender-lenth jump on the third beep. I found traction and didn't spin at all and immediately started pulling. As I ran through 3rd I had a constant pull on him and I kept pulling even more as I went into 4th gear. By 120 I had an easy 3 lengths on him and then I slowed. We both slowed and exchanged a thumbs up and went on our way. No ricer flyby.
While the car wasn't an STI, it did sound like it was pretty well modded....exhaust, bov, etc. although I'm not exactly sure to what extent. Given that my car is good for 11's N/A, I gather he must have a good bit of work done.
One observation I had during the race, the gearing on those cars must be ridiculously tight....it seemed like he was just zipping though gears the whole time. I'm sure a higher ratio would help keep the turbo closer to full boost, however it just seemed like by the time he shifted into a gear and got to pull a bit in the band, he was already shifting to the next one. I have 3.90's and was running in third gear a great deal longer than he was. Given the outcome from a 45 mph roll, I can imagine this would've been a very tight race from a dig.

They are geared stupid tight. You can't go through the 1/4 in them w/out shifting into 5th....

I rip through my friends WRX like mad. I always thought they had to be geared really tight too after driving it. When modded right they can hang.
Good kill!
