The LS series is expansive ranging from 4.8 to 7.0 in steel and aluminum. The crank on all LS engines save for the 4.8 and 7.0 are the same 92mm (3.62). And if I am not mistaken all LS series also have aluminum heads.
Heres some LS info for ya.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
Very good and concise. 1 item though: Shouldn't the LS1 be 98-up F-body instead of 97-up?
If this is correct (I believe so) and it gets fixed then a mod can delete my post.

light grey- 1978 Volvo 242GT
Thanks for the comprehensive listing. Can I copy it for my own personal use in the future? Also, where exactly does the L33 fit in with all of this? My limited understanding is that its about 327 inches, 310 hp, 330 tor., all aluminumumm 4th gen and was/is offered in '04 and later extended and crew cab light Chevy/GMC pickups with 4WD? Thanks again.

few questions
Aluminum Block VS Iron Block?
LM7 vs LM4 ..... if one was searching for a 700RWHP capable block for a turbo engine to run around on the street..... is there any significant difference in the strength between these two blocks?
Also.... if one wanted to build a 5.3...... could you install the L92 heads (originally for the 6.0 which has a larger bore)..... and if so... will the stock style truck 5.3 intake work?
I assume I could install a Z06 ... or LS1 vette camshaft into a (say 2000 model) 5.3 truck engine?
Sorry for the ignorance.

I don't really know the RWHP ratings in the Aluminum vs iron blocks. However there is an increase in strength between the two favoring the iron blocks, couldn't tell you exactly much though sorry.
As for the L92 heads on a LM7 or LM4 no. The valve placement is designed for a 4" bore (101.6 mm). Anything smaller than a 6.0 block (4"bore) will not work. Intake wise the L92/LS3/LS7 style heads (gen IV) are square port wheras the 5.3/5.7/6.0 LM/LS1/6 (gen III) style use cathedral ports.
The camshaft will work but you'd probably be better off ordering a custom grind as the specs on those cams are rather mild especially on a smaller displacement engine.

I had an 02 1500HD that was a 6.0. LQ9 I think. It was rated at 300Hp and 330 or 360 lbs tq.

With the 300 rating it sounds like the LQ4 (300 hp 3760 TQ)which is only a lower compression version of the LQ9. LQ9's had 345 hp rating and according to GM were only available in the cadillac trucks in 02.

Ls1 or Ls6???
Hello everyone
Ok this might sound weird but is there any truth to the rumor that there were 30,000 Ws6 from 1998 to 2002 given an Ls6 instead of an Ls1 because of overage.
I know this sounds funny but 3 weeks age something strange happened to me. I was driving around my area and pulled up to a 2006ishbody style yellow Cobra mustang at a red light. I told the drive nice ride and if it was a real cobra he smiled and said yes than hit the gas it sounded deep but I have hard deeper before. The streets were pretty clear so we waited for the green light to see what’s what. I hooked pretty quick and killed him at the light I saw him catching up so I floored it and it was not even close I was killing him by 2 to 3 cars easy. We hit another light and I told him to stop playing and really lay into it he looked pretty upset and asked what I had I told him nothing but stock. He called me a liar and told me to F%^K off, he felt I have had to have something. I know I do not have stock exhaust, but even So can anyone help?
This might sound we

The complete LS6 (Z06 engine) was never installed in an F-body from the factory. However, there was a shortage of LS1 blocks in the 2001-2002 model years, so the LS6 block was substituted in its place. It offers no real advantages over the LS1, it won't make any more power or anything, its just that its the LS6 casting.

Thanks for clearing that up I am pretty new to the F-body scene. Still felt good pounding on a mustang.... So how would you be able to tell if you have a Ls6 instead of a Ls1? One more thing I read somewhere (can't remember the site ) that a 2001 and 2002 was rated at 385Hp and can ran a 12.9 in the 1/4 mile is that true?

In most cases GM, Ford and, Chrysler under rate the horse power, Has the ls1 been dyno tested to show any diff in factory rating?
