Navy Blue Metallic- 98 Camaro Z28
Headlight restoration (pics)
*note: not trying to steal thunder of Y2K's post...I just saw it. funny timing*
I get a lot of PMs about this, so I figured it was time to post up what I can do for headlights. Both my Camaro and the Civic needed it done but since the Civic is my daily, figured I'd do it first.
Process was wetsanded 1500, 2000, 2500, compound, and then polish.
What I started with
After wetsanding (part of tape peeled off AFTER)
FINISHED!

Too funny that you guys posted up the same. Did you use a plastic polish, or anything special on yours?

very cool. I ve been detailing myself to be somewhat familiar with stuff but not wetsanding and all these compound numbers etc. I'm sure these are more professional products or just more specific in their applications than the ff the shelf meguiars and zainos. Care to get more specific in any way on the steps, and time taken and any how to tips on doing this??? thanks for the pics tho I no longer want to buy new headlights lol !

You can also hit any auto paint supply store and pick up some 3m compounds and polishes since I none of the PPG or Dupont places I go to carry Meguires. 3m is a easy brand to find. I use it on Camaro headlight at my shop sometimes and it works perfect for polishing after wetsanding. Most of the cars I do are in worse shape so I just knock them down with 400 the 600 wet and clearcoat them, sometimes I'll add a few drops of black and do a light smoke since it looks custom and hides imperfections on really yellow lights. I do allot of taillight, sidemarkers, and front blinkers smoking on TA's and Camaro's and a few I've done to match the paint on the car. Depend what people want that day.
