You can drain and refill the trans with little chance of a problem. Just don't have it power flushed. I wouldn't waste your time with rear discs or an electric fan. Neither one will offer big enough gains to be worth the time or effort in my opinion. As far as power adders... It's already going to be a lot better than a 4.3 Astro, and should tow 2700lbs with little effort. Just leave it stock and do all the maintenance.

Since you're towing a boat....any chance you'll be in a van....down by the river?
Trans fluid is subjective....some will tell you to change it....some will not. My thinking is that if the only thing keeping that trams together is some old burnt ass fluid I want to change it and see what I have versus on the side of the freeway somewhere.

Pretty much what 5.0 said. Its a flush you need to watch out for as it can dislodge shavings etc.
I had a friend who towed his enclosed trailer with 2 dodge neon race cars, parts, tools etc that weighed 10klbs with a late 90s E150. And he towed it all over Wisconsin for years.

He did say "parts" after the "Dodge Neon Race Cars" portion.
At a trailer weight of 10k lbs with 2 Neons in it, I'm guessing LOTS of parts.

Haha....you guys crack me up. The trailer weighs something though and an enclosed trailer big enough for 2 cars would be pretty heavy

I had no clue the Vortec 5.7L was still produced after the year 2000.. Figured the 6.0L LQ4 would have been in them by 2000.

Yes... I said it... DODGE NEON RACE CARS!!!!
They are circuit/oval track cars.... not drag cars. He runs them in the 4 cylinder FWD class. No power adders, everything in that engine must be stock specs. They have torn into his engines before to verify.... only when he wins though.

Vortec heads are probably the best flowing cast iron heads out there. As far as for getting more power, I would probably do a camshaft but I would also think about pulling the heads off and doing a good port and rebuild for the heads, and then have a computer tune done.

update
I thought my Van had a DC/AC inverted to power the TV it doesn’t that I can see.
This TV is powered by 12-14V DC.
I’m thinking I can stripe the TVs 12V DC wire and connect a DC/AC inverter correct?
How big of a inverter will I need for a lap top, range extender and a 27” flat screen samsung TV?
The 1500 express doe’s tow better than the astro however when I tow in 3rd gear on cruise control and get on the expressway the check engine light blicks then stays on first couple of trips to the river/lake for shakedowns the light went off the 3rd trip the light stays on.
The code is p0300 for multiply miss fire mite be time for a tuneup w/ 190K on the clock.
Orian I’ll be down at the river doing shakedowns on my new engine boats purpose is cruising the Gulf for giant Wahoo, tuna, mahia, marlin ect.
moderater please adjust my folder so I can post images

Navy Blue Metallic- 98 T/A, 00 FBVert, 78T/A
You need to add up all the watts together from all of the devices you expect to run and then as a safety factor and an additional 20-25%, that will be the size inverter you need.
