New head unit or ipod adpater
Hi, I just got an ipod and I'm trying to decide if I want to just get an adapter for the stock stereo or just replace the radio all together. I currently have a Monsoon. Here's the adapter:

Save your $$$ and get the iSimple by Peripheral. Look for one on Ebay. Might be between $50 to $100. Here's my install write up for a '00 or newer Monsoon. (It HAS TO BE '00 or newer and a CD.) The iSimple replaces the CD changer, so if you have a changer, it will not work (the changer wont work, the stereo will).

That's exactly like the USA Spec adapter, except less expensive. I did the same thing with the USA Spec. I have a couple of posts in this thread (the Peripheral is mentioned too):

I have this same dilemma. I haven't purchased yet, but I've decided to get a new head unit. For $100 more, I'll get a nice HU that has bluetooth and ipod connectivity built-in. I did quite a bit of research on the bluetooth models and finally decided on the Sony BT5700U.

Unfortunately, all the stereo stuff has to wait due to some clutch issues which take precedent over all.Last edited by tpilews; 01-03-2010 at 05:25 AM.

Too bad you already purchased that one. You should have looked into uniqtechnology.com. They have all kinds of ipod and zune hook ups. The one they have like the one you purchased is on sale for 59.95 with free shipping.

Here it is:

It's a universal and would proabably work but I think I'm nore comfortable with the GM adapter.

Go with the adapter, its a simple install, still retains stock appearance and your steer controls should function as well.

aftermarket head units look like garbage in our cars. unless you go with a high dollar double din LCD screen, but then you need a custom bezel. and all that isnt worth it unless you want to swap all the speakers, then youre talking way more than the $100 youll spend for an adapter. i have the Peripheral one, love it. got mine at best buy for $99.

if you do choose to go aftermarket...alpine makes a great unit for controlling ipod and iphones...model number ida-x305...i believe average cost for this is around $235 now.
here is a demonstration video

^^ I watched the video and remebered why I didn't go with an aftermarket HU... Too much to learn. I'm not a big music fan so I just need the music playing.
I already know my iPhone's controls so the iSimple was hands down, the way to go! It's an easy install, my steering wheel controls still work and I didn't have to learn new functions like spinning the ring, or pushing down just the ring, how to search songs, etc. I went with simplicity and ease.
Plus, who'd want to steal a shitty stock stereo? And my isimple cable is hidden under the center console and pops up through the ashtray. It's pretty stealth.
Just my $.02. Not dissin' anyone in here, just putting out my thinking behind my purchase.
