Max rear tire size on stock WS6 wheels
Long time watcher and advertiser but I'm here for my own personal reasons today.
2001 WS6
I need new tires. The 'originals' still have good tread but being 18 years old have a slight bit of dry rot on them! Yes, originals.
I believe we put 1" drop lowering springs. I'm fine with the fronts staying 275/40/17 unless something can fill the wheel well (height wise) better.
I also read about tread width vs tire width and I'm in the camp of having the wider tread width. Going for looks and not planning on getting on the rims any time soon.
So....
What would be the widest 'safe' tire (brand/model) recommendation that would also best fill in the wheel well?
thanks!Last edited by Ccass; 06-24-2019 at 04:55 PM.

Phantom Black Metallic- 2004 GTO M6
Some members run 285/295 on their rear WS6 wheels. They also "massage" their rear inner fenders with a "bfh" to gain more clearance.

Silver- '02 Trans Am WS-6, 6M
With my 2002 WS6 wheels, I ran 275/40/17s. Once I got the C5 Z06 17x9.5s, I went out to 285/40/17s, haven't needed any modification to the body.
I’ve been running Continental Extreme Contacts (DWs now Sports).
Blew a tire when it was 10’ out this winter because I was too lazy to put by snows on, I wouldn’t recommend a max performance tire over the winter in PA.SLP Air Lid/Smooth Bellows
