I just got a hold of my painter and he said it would likly double the cost of the job though. dont think I can swing that.

Color change is more money, especially on a 4th gen since the engine compartment and about everything else gets shot body color. That's alot of labor and materials.
It is a pretty color though.

^love the color change but I'm not digging the wheels. TA's can pull them off but the Camaro sure can't.

Black- 2002 SS Camaro
Electron blue is my dream corvette color, I wouldn't put it on my Camaro tho. My reasoning is that it's too much work and black is just too damn sexy

Poly Trans mount, Solid Motor mount, Strut tower Brace
Performance:
SLP intake, Smooth Bellow, A.I.R Delete, M/T's on Salad Shooters

Sunset Orange Metalic- 2001 Camaro SS
The work involved to change the color of the car is far too extensive imo to make it worth it. Black is a color you can probably get away with in some areas but it's still a big job. I say leave it black
If it means that much to you then blue it is. It's your car, do what you like with it.

I say if you got the cash, do it. But be sure that its somethig you are willing to deal with forever or until the end of the car.
Suspension: Lower control arms (Spohn), Drive shaft safety loop, Torque arm (Edlebrock), Strut tower brace, Panhard Bar (BMR)
Under the Hood: Smooth bellows, Lid, Catch can, LT Headers, ORY, AIR/EGR delete, Poly engine/transmission mounts,
Exterior: Painted brake calipers (Red), Halo “Spyder” Headlights w/matching parking/turn signals (Black)

Custom Swirly Black- 2001 WS6 M6
I could be wrong, but a showcar quality color change is almost the equivalent of a supercharger.
SC > Color
But that's me.

You can buy a super charger much cheaper than doing a complete color change on a 4th gen, trust me
For a good quality paint job it's several thousand easily, to do a color change on a 4th gen it requires pulling the drivetrain and literally 90% of the car into pieces to do it right. It's double the money.
I wouldn't even touch a 4th gen color change for the price of a super charger, neither would most other quality shops.

Well, I'm not that expensive But yeah, a good quality paint job isn't cheap. There are shops around here that lay some slick show quality paint down, but they don't even touch a car for less than $10k and the price goes up from there. That doesn't include shooting a complete engine compartment and floor pans (as would be necessary on a 4th gen color change). Most good show quality paint you see on cars at cruise night or at your local show can be $15k or more easy if you are paying someone to do it.
It's not just the work involved, but the price of materials is out of sight nowadays. Takes a gallon and a half of paint to shoot a car, include the engine compartment and floor pans then make that 2 gallons of color and clear. Reducers, hardeners, sand paper and masking supplies, buffing compounds and materials. A good quality paint like Sikkens is going to be what most quality shops will use unless it's a budget job. There are off brands of Sikkens that are still decent quality however if you want to save a few bucks. PPG also has some off brands that don't spray bad and seem to hold up well. That's the key with paint quality,,,,durability. You are still talking an easy $2,000 just in materials, sometimes more depending on the color chosen.
I can make a cheap brand like single stage Omni (off brand PPG) look slick and shiny when it's done, but it won't last 2 years in the sun before it fades and looks like chalk. Just the difference in paint quality, you get what you pay for.
So that would at least give you an idea of what you are looking to do.Last edited by Firebirdjones; 02-19-2012 at 12:12 PM.

With all that said, you can understand why a door dent from an inconsiderate prick really pisses me off
