Looking for mods for my 96 Trans am
I am looking for some mods for my 96 Trans am 6 speed Lt1, i have a short shift , with k& n cold air intake, and borla exhaust. I am looking for some mods with hp gain. Also i really need a Ram Air hood if anyone has one or a website where to get one, that doesnt cost an arm and leg! I also need some long tube headers if anyone has those to.
thanks

58mm throttle body and porting the intake helps a bit and is easy to do.

The stock throttle body is not a restriction until well over 400hp... why upgrade for only a few horsepower (literally)?
As for mods... completing your exhaust with headers and a high flow cat (or no cat), is the next easiest thing you can do to get some good power gains. After that, you can have the car tuned for 10-20rwhp more if you want (I prefer on a dyno )... and then you're either going into the motor (ported heads, cam, stroker, etc), or going forced induction or nitrous.

I agree with the headers. A good set of Pacesetter's would do well. Before the dyno tune though, I would add a set of Comp Pro Mag 1.6 rollers. It made a nice difference in my car when it was bolt on. And stay away from the 58mm TB unless you get a good deal on one and you have big plans for the future. I bought one from a friend when I only had bolt-ons and it made a nice difference in throttle response but other than that no difference at the track

For a cheaper fix on the cat, just gut yours. Find an old timer, they can help with that. Next step I would take for bolt-ons would be headers. Long tube would be best but you do have to change the y-pipe. I don't want to tell you wrong on the rockers so someone else will have to help on that. Some free HP you can do a TB bypass and de-screen the maf sensor.

ok if i get a set of long tube headers , what kind of pipes should i get since i have to get rid of my y pipe ? but i can keep my borla exhaust right? its one inlet , and dual outlet.
thanks

You can get a y-pipe for long tube headers. Do not try to use the stock y-pipe on long tube headers. 1.6 roller rockers are part of the valvetrain, probably good for 7-15rwhp in most cases on a bolt on car. If you dont know what they are, might be a good idea not to mess with those just yet, or at least have a pro install them for you.

If you don't have to worry about emmisions and know someone to inspec your car, then don't even worry about a cat. For your borla, you can use it. It will have to be cut some but thats the same set up my brother used on his car. If you plan on getting high power #s then you might check on true-duals. This way you wont need to buy a Y pipe.

ok so i want headers with an electric cutout. What kind of pipe would i need, and would it sound good with one cutout? If i get true duals then i will need 2 cutouts right?

Even with long tubes, you would be better off putting 2 cutt outson it. If you only use 1, then your exaust will go down to 1 tube beforecomeing out.

Long tubes with nthe single 3in Borla would give you plenty of exhaust flow for now. You can get an electric cut out that will fit your Borla. I ran that set up for a while. It sounds good, and made good power.

The cut out for the Borla goes where the tuning plates go. Whereever you get your headers from buy the Y-pipe from them.

Yes. You can put the cut out anywhere on the exaust.
