Radar Detectors
Hey everyone, I havent posted in awhile so I figured Ide ask a question since im always thinking about it. When I buy my first ls1 in hopefully less than a year I will be looking to buy a radar detector. I got my license when I was 15 and since then ive paid over $2,000 in speeding citations to the county I live in. Im not a dumbass or anything I just have really bad luck with traffic cops. And everytime im in the car with my buddy 02sunsetorangeZ and we find a race I get paranoid that traffic cops are everywhere. I dont wanna be that way when i get my car, I havent done much research on radar detectors and scanners so I was hoping to get some advice from you guys. thanks! and also what about jammers and scramblers?

Let me say this. You gonna get shit for this.
Youll get the smart asses saying "try slowing down" but idk how old you are but when cops see a teen guy in a loud sports car...they drool. Yeah yeah no "cop bashing" but its not bashing when its the truth.
Profiling is Wrong!
But hey...ive spent $750 on traffic violations ranging from a bullshit "unsafe start" to 8 over to a fucker sitting on a back chip'n'sealed road.
Its not too much to gain an edge. Get an escourt. Corbras arent worth it. Im going to get the passport iq for my college drives.
But they arent worth it if you arent smart. They only work in traffic or interstates are nice and lasers are a done deal-its too late by that time.
Most will give you a mile or half mile heads up.
Some have city modes. Pop modes etc.
Budget will narrow ur opinions. And then u gotta find what you like.
However my complaint is that most arent loud enough or bright enought during daylight.
I gotta say...its nice to have a little dash buddy to keep an extra eye out for when u aren payin attention.
But this is comming from someone thats been pulled over 8 times...yup prestigious my ass...seems like they could find something more useful than sitting on the side of backroads pulling over some kids on the way to high school. Such a respectible person eh?
But keep a laso on that ls1. Its hard to keep a light foot in themLast edited by BashamWS6; 02-09-2011 at 07:58 PM.

I had my DL revoked twice due to points. All of the points were speeding tickets. First time was a 3 month revoke second time was 6 months. If you speed the ticket is on you not the officer. Even after the revokes I would still get speeding tickets from time to time. It took me a long time to learn something simple. If you don't speed they can not give you a ticket for that. With that said I have a Whistler in my Z and a Valentine One in my Lincoln LS. I will say the Whistler in the Z goes off more often (not false) than the Valentine One in the LS. The detectors would remind me when I was not watching my speed to do so. It took me too many years to learn to set the cruise control to the speed limit and watch the others get tickets..

Thanks for the info fellas, I've learned my lesson about setting cruise control and doing the speed limit I just want that lil extra comfort if I get into a race. I'll be looking into the ones y'all mentioned.

I run radar detectors in everything I own. But let me warn you. Laser/Instant On gonna get you even if you have the highest dollars RD made. "Scramblers" (Rocky Mountain Bullshit) are illegal.

Valentine 1 not only does it tell you if u are being hit from the front, side, or rear but also how many are hitting you. They also have excellent range and accuracy probably the best detector under 400.

However the Escourt Passport IQ is disguised as a navigational system. 2 in 1 and wont attract the cops attention when hes at ur window

Like mentioned, most cops these days are a lot smarter....
They do not sit there with their radars on. If they see a car coming, they turn it on and detect your speed instantly.
No radar detector will alleviate that.

I got rid of mine. False constantly. My Whistler Pro's work much better. Frankly I could give a shit less where it is...as when it goes off I slow my ass down anyway....Ka and K bands the Whistler is super reliable and I may get a false every so often. The V1 pretty much stayed screaming all the fucking time.

I get lots of false X bands. And needless to say i dont live in the city...so i couldnt image how annoying my cobra would be then. And if ur racing...you might as well keep it hammered down and try to out run their radios. think about it...your running 100+ in the opposite direction/or theyre at dead stop. Not to mention...their governors are set at 130ish and run a 5 second+ 0-60 for most. Your ls1 will run 155+. Just take a back road...shut the lightz off and pull behind a building...wait for the cruiser to pass. Then book ur ass home. Consider ur self one lucky bastard and learn...
Just dont get anyone killed. For practice i suggest 3+ hrs a day with needforspeed hotpursuit. Remember...proper training is the key to sucess...
I feel my signature quote is proper for this discussion...
