Suggestions for exhaust replacement for a cam/lt/ory car?
I have a '00 WS6 with a 227/235 .614 .621 113LSA +2 cam, hooker lt's, and an ory I'm trying to finish off. It's currently connected to an slp loud mouth I catback with the resonator removed for an e-cutout and it sounds terribly raspy, obnoxious, and incredibly too loud (prev owners pick). I have an e-cutout after the ory to be loud with when I want so I'm looking for an exhaust that is more smooth and tuned sounding (as rasp-less as possible).
I'll even replace the ory with a catted one or cat the one I have if that is necessary to get the sound I'm looking for. As stated, I'm looking for that more tuned and rasp free v8 sound so I can spend more time enjoying my new car instead of trying to avoid certain RPMs and police.
One option I've considered is the Magnaflow dual tip catback, but I'm looking for opinions, input, and suggestions. I'm trying to stay around the $500ish rang.
And yes I've read the full stickies.Last edited by RebelExtrm02; 11-18-2011 at 08:12 PM.

+1 for magnaflow. It's about the only stainless catback you can get around $500 and I love mine. Exhaust clip is on YouTube btw

Are the tips that come with the magnaflow dual/dual resonated? If not, would ditching those for a set of resonated tips help offset me not having cats as far as rasp is concerned?

The magnaflow tips are not resonated, I have no rasp with my magnaflow and no cats.

You can go with a SLP LM to PoweFlo Conversion, pt# 31086 (about$300).

Yet another plug for Magnaflow, have it and love it, no rasp and stainless steel for CHEAP. Works great with an e-cutout when you want loud, best of both worlds

I have the same problem that you have and I'm ordering my magnaflow catback soon. They sound great and usually are free from all the rasp.

If you want to buy a bolt on system go magnaflow. If you can have a shop custom build a system go with that, I have a setup that has no rasp and no drone but at WOT is extremely loud.

I never was all that big a fan of Magnaflow. Supposed to be quiet and rasp free but I've heard a few of them, sounds pretty loud to me. For a nice mellow sound I like the factory Dual/Dual available as an option on SS's and Firehawks. (And that's not the loud mouth system).
Here is a sound clip of a back to back comparison on the same car. Magnaflow first, then a Dual/Dual setup. Big difference in sound quality. Both with long tube headers and off road Y-pipe. I'm not really liking the Magnaflow in this clip either.

I'm not anti-Magnaflow but Hooker Catbacks are pretty good systems also. The Magnaflow does have the advantage of less/or no rasp. There's always Corsa if you got the $$$.

The Magnaflow example I posted sounds just as raspy as most anything else I've heard. If anything, that factory Dual/Dual system is less so.
This is without cats, which some people use as a bandaid to try and deaden the sound. So comparing with cats or without is a critical difference.

Before I spent that kind of money on corsa Rob, not that it's a bad system, it's very good, but it's still a single cat back system. I can spend same (or slightly less) for a true dual Bassani system that exits out the back bumper, and have better sound quality.
That rasp that everyone tries to avoid is mainly caused by funneling the exhaust down to a single pipe. Different mufflers have different affects, and some will bandaid it with cats. I found that simply increasing the I-pipe size to something larger than 3" helps reduce that affect, (aka: Mufflex),,,,or simply running a real dual system.

I have a magnaflow with no cats, absolutely no rasp from my car. Maybe it depends on what kind of headers and Ory toy are running. I have pacesetter headers and pacesetter Y.
