Speedometer intermittently stops working
My speedometer stops working intermittently. Running down the highway, it will go to zero for 41 minutes or so, then start working again. The odometer doesn't register any mileage when the needle is on zero.
Is the speedometer operated electrically, or by a gear in the transmission?
Anyone had this problem or know the solution?
Thanks,
GM

try the # 12 fuse thats red. that will do it. when its doing it is it just doing the speedometer? if soo it probly the lil motors in the guage cluster itself. if after changing out the only red fuse and its still not it im almost positve that it something to do with the cluster. there almost 300 brand new but you can find one on E bay for like 50-100 dollars.
just see if its just the speedometer needle first. if its all the guages do what i todl you
now this is a long shot but if you ever tooken out your cluster before see if its tight enough in. its like a nintendo game cartriage. make sure its super tight. hope this helps you GWZ28

Thanks for the replies, guys. I'll change the fuse, and I'll tighten up the speedometer cable on the transmission. Hopefully it won't be a $300 cluster.
I'm from Edmond.
Thanks again,

you may wanna look at the tranny module. Does your RPM gauge work too?? or is it just your speedometer. If your RPM gauge doesn't work and your speedpmeter then I would test the module and see if its good.. In most cases the cluster gauge hardly goes out. So I would check that last. Try the speedometer senor in the tranny.. check to see if you have the correct voltage and resistance. also check the wiring ..

The Tachometer always works. I think it's probably in the tranny.
Thanks,
