Engine pulling question
Is it ok to pull an engine with a pulling plate bolted onto the carb pad of an aluminum intake? A 550 pound small block being supported by four bolts threaded into aluminum just doesn't sound good to me. Any one with experience?

Have done it many times. I agree, it looks scary as hell having the engine hanging from the plate and four small bolts (or studs and nuts), but we have never had a problem.

since there are 4 bolts connected by the plate you get into a whole different realm of math regarding the stress on each bolt......I wouldn't have a problem doing it.

You have to think of the tensile strength of each bolt.

Just didn't know if it was advisable with the aluminum manifold over an iron one. Thanks for the help
