Visual differences between ls1 and ls6 engine?
What are some of the visual differences between a ls1 engine and a ls6 engine? Besides the casting numbers? I am having a hard time looking at the back of the block and I don't anything to drop the motor at this time.. so are there any easy visual differences between them?
LS6 engine block casting number 12561168
LS1 engine block casting number 12559378
I am aware of the casting numbers..

By the coolant crossover line on the block the LS1 blocks have a bullseye where the LS6 blocks dont. I believe there are 4 along the top front of the block
No big difference between the two.

Does anyone have a picture of this? So far I can't find any tube with a T on it, and the hose that is going to the TB looks like a vacuum hose.

again, nvm the only 3 numbers on the side driver side is 241, it seems to be a 350 gm goodwrench block however, is this just a replacement block then?

the LS1 and LS6 differ in color slightly... but you'd only be able to tell if they were side by side... the LS6 has better cooling passeges in the block and a few other minor bits...

When I first bought the car, and i bought it from a dealer over a year ago, it dynoed at 385 rwhp when I bought it but the dealer said it was a stock engine, he clearly didn't know anything about the car and got it dynoed after I bought it at sounds unlimited. So i know it has some work done to it, but i don't know what since it was a 3 owner car with only 44k on it. It has a ported and polished TB, but I don't know all the work done to it. It is a silver block..

12564824 I believe, I just out it all back together and had all the numbers on a pad so I think its that, but if that matches to something else let me know, I lost the thread that had all the numbers on it.

question is.. should I buy the car back as salvage? Would I get my money back out of the engine? It only has 39k on the engine and trans is perfect. Would I get my money back is salvage is 1400-2200?

i wouldnt think you would have a problem getting your money back on the motor and trans. we bought a recked z28 a few years ago for $3000 and put the motor, trans, and cpu in a 70 chevelle. just my opinion....

Well turns out they want 2,500, therefore, I'm not going to buy it back. Maybe one of you guys who reside in the midwest can get their hands on it. I don't know what junkyard they are taking it to, but I'm guess Paul's in Westville. It's a 01 Trans Am WS6 6 Speed Hurst Shifter Navy Metallic Blue with tinted taillights with Oakwood leather interior. Fiberglass hood with all SLP under the hood in the intake. It only can side rear damage to it, so engine and transmission is in perfect shape with only 39k on the LS6. Goodluck all.
