Steering wheel airbag delete mod. 2.7 ohm resistor.
(This is in a 1998 T/A convertible.)
I've seen hints on this and other forums that a 2.7 ohm resistor might work when swapping to an aftermarket steering wheel to mimic the airbag as far as the airbag control module is concerned. I went ahead and proved it this evening. Just jumped the two wires in the yellow loom with the resistor above the knee-bolster. Fake carbon-fiber Grant steering wheel that I've owned since about 1993 is in place. No airbag light on the dash. No clunky GM steering wheel with functionless stereo buttons. Win-win-win!

Interesting. First I had heard of this - so the system is still functional for the passenger side bag?

The system is still powered up, and it shows no trouble lights so I will assume the passenger airbag will still go off if needed. I'm not prepared to test this out though.
I'm happy as long as it passes inspection. I asked if it would last time it was inspected and the guy at the desk didn't know. If not, I can always pop the old wheel back on for a day and I won't have to worry about re-wiring anything.

I just simply unplugged the yellow wires on both sides. I don't really care about the light being on, I just don't like air bags. No inspections here to worry about. Been driving them this way for years. Never wanted to remove the wheel because my wife actually likes the stereo buttons. Nice on long trips, don't even need to take your eye's off the road.
