1998 Z PCM problem..PLEASE HELP!!
i have a '98 z28,all stock, automatic.car ran perfect until my pcm gave out on me,it's amazing what a few drops of water will do!well,i got a pcm, reman, already programed with my vin#,all set to go,supposedly..put it in my car, hooked up the battery, and nothing.she just cranks over, won't start, and kept throwing code PO601,which usually means a bad pcm, from what i've heard.called the pcm place back, and and i'm waiting for another.all stock settings, except i'm having the VATS taken out..now here's my question:when i get my pcm,is it just a matter of installing it,connecting the battery, and GO?or are there other steps i must take,or take it to a shop for the install, which i really don't want to do.according to the pcm company adds,it's 'PLUG AND GO'.sounds easy, but i've been waiting almost 2 months to drive my car AGAIN!PLEASE HELP!new guy, arthur THANK YOU GUYS,AND GIRLS.

Your on the right track, as long as you disconnct your battery, install the PCM then reconnect, it will start and run like poo until it learns its trims.
Either they sent you a bad PCM or you have something else going on. What made you replace the PCM? How did you determine it was bad?
Welcome to the party bud

I'm sure you know, but make sure you are getting the PCM for a 98 as well... 99-02 are different

1998 Z28 pcm prblem HELP!!
yea '98 is the worst year for these things,i know..it was from a '98 my only problem is trying to get a good one.some places will send you junk, and try to get away w/it,unfortunately.just hope it's programmed right, and wasn't sitting on the bottom of a lake somewhere.

1998 Z pcm took a bath..now what??
anyone know if pcm plug gets wet, corodes a couple of connectors,i repair connectors, get new programed pcm..is there any other damage that could of happened besides pcm/pcm plug, such as sensors,shorts,etc...i'm afraid when i plug my new pcm in,that i might fry it.first one i got was either bad or something else is wrong, car would not start, and it kept throwingPO601 code which we know is internal pcm..hopefully it was a bad pcm, otherwise i have some other serious problems.it was in the blue bank, connectors were double checked for correct pin outs, and NO wires were burnt at all.thanks for any help A.G.

If your old PCM starts the car with no problems then your issue is in the new PCM, What company did you get it from? This is your second pcm correct?
Did you contact the company directly?

new pcm no start
i got it from spareecm.com off -bay.i have talked to the owner, rodney, and he x-changed the first one,no problem, and told me that it came from a running "98,and my car should start right up..ther's no way i could have gotten 2 bad pcm's in a row, don't u think?stock tuned, vats removed..could it be the crank position relearn, set with the tech2.

had car towed TWICE today, ended up at a chevy dealer.tech said somethings really wrong, probably with the pcm programming,or pcm itself..and yes he has heard of 2 or MORE being bad.these pcm sellers are advertising these units as 'plug and play'.thats a bunch of u know what!!if it's a different unit it most likely has to be programed in the vehicle with a TECH2 GM programmer,PERIOD..especially with the 98's..this whole deal is costing me well over 1300.00.next time-right to the DEALER..never thought i'd say that!!!!!!!
