Ifound a 455 for 600.00 what is different about 454 and 455 besides the obvious. I was thinking of building the 350 for nitrous or going with turbo'd 400 I have a old t4 but I probably need a bigger turbo

well is the 455 out of a pontiac, buick or oldsmobile? everyone of them are completely different, and the difference between them and the 454 is everything, (bore, stroke, block size, design, heads, intake etc.) and nothing is interchangable, personally (especially if the 455 in a poncho) I'd go with the 455, it would just be cool, nostalgic, although a little more work I think it would be worth it and it would be unique. for $6500 I'd say you'll be in the 11s, not all of that is gonna be for the engine though, you need a trans. suspension mods, wiring, motor mounts. etc. hey if you need help with locating parts for the 455 (pontiac) email me, jpo_50@hotmail.com, If I don't have it I can get it.

The 454 is a Chevy engine (big block) and the 455 is a displacement for a Pontiac, Olds, or a Buick motor, otherwise BPO when refuring to the bellhousing for the transmission. The Chevy 454 motor is different that of the BPO, only-Chevy motor w/Chevy Trans will work togther (that is with an adaptor plate). You can bolt a Buick trans to a Pontiac motor 1970-1976 455, 400, 350, or even a 1977- 301. The heads on a 400 Pontiac will bolt right up to a 455 or a 350 they are all the same block 455 are drilled and tapped for 4 bolt main caps but not all have them installed. No old engine swaps will be smog legal, the rear end will never support a 10 second car >475hp; why not put a LS1 in it, then mod it, you said it's a '95 right, it can be done it would be tougher to install a 454 LS6 Chevy to a Pontiac Trans and put it into a '95 Formula but it could be done.

If you know what you're doing, absolutely. Question though, what did the 95 Trans Am come with? Although there's no motor or tranny, does it at least have the stock wiring still in tact? I would seriously consider building a bored and stroked LT1 (provided the wiring is still in tact)...
